A Prank Well Played

This week's instalment is a little longer than usual because it's all the rest of the unicorn/yuppie/Mooney's revenge plot line. I hope you've liked it!

~Rebecca

They ran through town in wolf form, slipping in and out of shadows like ghosts. Moon-Moon was wearing the fake fur backpack his girlfriend, Gloria, and bought for him so he could carry a change of clothes and his wallet and cell phone with him when running as a wolf. The other guys in the pack had made fun of him for it but he didn't care. They made fun of him about most things, even sticking him with the name of an Internet meme. But who was it they called when they needed something done involving high tech stuff? That's right, they called Moon-Moon.

He had to admit, though, that he preferred running with Mooney, and not because the larger wolf never joined in with the teasing. It was because Mooney was a fellow professional. He, Moon-Moon, was a tech guru who could hack any surveillance system and build Chines finger trap-style security that left lesser hackers wide open to retaliation. Mooney was one of the best private investigators in Montana and probably the best prankster alive that wasn't also part coyote. Their skills complimented each other and their girls were best friends, too. Plus, no one messed with him when he was running with the enormous younger brother of the McMahon pack alpha.

He didn't exactly care that most wolves teased him for being odd but it was nice when he didn't have to deal with it 24/7. No one messed with Mooney. No one. Mooney may not have the drive or ambition of an alpha but he could fight dirty with the best of them and was big enough to make anyone think twice.

Tonight's job was shaping up to be a lot of fun. Mooney had a bone to grind with those out of town yuppies, or thought he did anyway. This was another reason no one messed with Mooney; he had a slightly maladjusted vindictive streak. Marissa, Mooney's mate, had made an earnest if unflattering remark about the yuppies and Mooney had made a word play joke about it and pissed Marissa off. So naturally, it was all the yuppies' fault, right?

Moon-Moon didn't know what his pack mate was planning but it was bound to be good. Mooney's sire once painted a hunter purple for being a pain in the tail. He had a feeling tonight was the night Mooney was going to try and one-up his old man. And guess who was going to be in on the fun. That's right, Moon-Moon was.

It didn't take long to get out to Schitt Creek Bridge, which gave them a good fifteen minutes to scope everything out and get the downed unicorn out of sight before the on-duty cop car rolled around, and probably as much as twenty minutes before Lamar and Jamey showed up with the paper's news van.

It was just like the yuppies had said on the phone, sort of. There was a green Prius parked on the far side of the road, a good 100 feet away from the unicorn. There was no blood or arrows, though. It was laying in the tall grass snorting happily to itself which meant it was drunk off fermented windfall apples, which is what Mooney's first guess was when he heard the story. Apparently chasing drunk unicorns had been one of the McMahons' favorite puppyhood pass times.

Anyway, after a quick but thorough recon, Mooney changed back to his human skin and dug into the side pouch of Moon-Moon's backpack looking for his cell phone.

"Hey, babe," the bigger wolf said into it after the call picked up. "No, I'm not going to beg to come back home," he huffed, sounding like a deep-voiced five-year-old. "I need to hide a drunk unicorn that got itself spotted buy out-of-towers. They aren't too close, but they're watching so I can't just shew it away. Do you have any spells that can hide it or something? One you can do over the phone? What about that stuffed animal spell you used that time the twins accidentally turned your cat into a horse? You can do that one remotely? Great! Let me sneak over to the 'corn so I can put the phone up to its ear."

Moon-Moon watched in awe as Mooney carefully clamped the phone in his mouth, screen side out, before shifting back to a wolf. He was willing to bet Mooney had been thinking of exactly this plan before they even left the G&B office. Mooney was an expert in field operations like this. And Marissa still occasionally went out on jobs with her mate when they could find someone to watch their pups for them, so this whole spell over the phone thing was probably common for them. But still, what a plan!

* * * * * * * * * *

Mooney shivered one last time even though he was back in his fur and not standing outside butt-naked in the frigid October night air anymore. He looked around, wagged his tail at his partner, acknowledging the dumbfounded look on Moon’s face—he refused to call the other wolf “Moon-Moon” because that was probably one of the smartest wolves alive, even if he was a bit of a nerd—and began sneaking through the tall grass to where the unicorn lay giggling to itself in horsey language.
Lupa, but he hadn’t done this in ages. Sneaking up on drunk herd animals is fun when you’re a pup, but not much of a challenge when you’re a grown wolf. Now, sneaking up to a drunk unicorn while trying not to let the vanillas see you? That could be a challenge. If he wasn’t very careful, the ‘corn would spook and spoil the hunt. And he needed to get close enough without the goofball noticing that he could hold the phone to its ear while Marissa spoke her incantation. Then he had to get away without being seen, all before any witnesses showed up. There was no way he could make it look like the crunch-butts had been smoking something if anyone else saw a living unicorn.
He’d been paused behind a particularly dense clump of sage for several minutes now, trying to figure out how to clear that last few feet to his target when he heard a very loud crack of someone stomping on a dry stick. He glanced toward the sound and then grinned, moving swiftly while both the humans and the unicorn looked that directing. That was why he liked working with the Moon Man. The fecker was a little odd but he had great instincts for this work. Without a word, had figured out what Mooney, aka Moon Dawg, had needed and provided a remedy.
He snorted softly three times, signaling Marissa, and then held the phone up to the ‘corn’s ear. Ten seconds later, it was done. He snorted three more times to let her know it had worked and then let the phone drop to hand around his neck by the lanyard. Carefully holding a delicate thing like a smart phone between wolf’s teeth for even a few minutes was exhausting and he was glad to be able to shut his mouth and swallow properly. Two more loud crunches of twigs from the Moon Man saw him safely back out of sight of the life-size stuffed animal that looked more like a My Little Pony than the real unicorn it has started out as.
It didn’t take long after that.
A cop car pulled up, driven by the ever efficient Officer Tom Sheppard, who shifted into a German Sheppard, of course. It seemed like that breed of shifter always ended up in law enforcement. Next came the B&B news van, driven by Jamey, a red wolf shifter and the paper’s on-call photographer/photo journalist. Sitting in the passenger side of the van was Jamey’s mate, Lamar, who was not on duty and was the most openly, flamboyantly gay boa constrictor in existence. Mooney approved of his presence, though, because now that the trap was set, an artist like Lamar would be able to spin it to even greater heights that it would have gone with only Tom, that rulebook loving killjoy, killing the comedic momentum.
All was going well until the female, who must have been smarter than she looked, started demanding to be given Officer Tom’s flashlight so she could look for hoof prints. This was bad, because Mooney had not been able to thoroughly check for hoof prints himself, and he was sure Tom hadn’t been able to totally eradicate them when he’d done his one not-hiding-from-humans search of the area. And then Moon came through again. Actually, he might have outdone himself this time.
Just as Tome was about to be circled by angry yuppies, here comes Moon, trotting down the middle of the road, plain as day and wearing that goofy backpack of his. Whistling “zippity do da”. Mooney hadn’t actually known it was possible to whistle in wolf form. He was sure glad he wasn’t one of the poor saps who had to pretend not to see a back-pack wearing wolf trotting down the road whistling Disney tunes, though.

Jitters

He figured he could get away with it. Confident Louie wouldn’t be back for at least an hour, Gil had the bowls out and was stirring the batter when Louie slammed into the kitchen of Rattigan’s Pub. He stopped dead in the doorway. “What the hell you doing in my kitchen?”

“Uh.” Gil froze in mid-stir. “Cooking?”

“Not in my kitchen, you ain’t. I thought we had an agreement. I don’t come onto the floor and wave cleavers at the customers unless they’re acting up, and you don’t come into the kitchen.” Louie stepped inside. He reached toward the wall. Gil tensed, but the rat only grabbed an apron. “What’re you doing in here anyway? Chloe don’t let you cook at home?”

“She had this craving,” Gil said. “For muffins. The bakery didn’t have what she wanted. I figured your kitchen would. I was going to pay for whatever I took. There’s the money right there on the counter.”

“Cravings, huh?” Louie chuckled. He waved Gil away from the table. “Out’a the way, amateur. I got this. What’s she got a hankerin’ for?”

“Oatmeal muffins, with walnuts, bananas, and spinach.”

“Did youse just say bananas and spinach?”

Gil nodded. “That’s why the bakery didn’t have any. They don’t get much call for those.”

Louie shook his head. “There’s fine dining, and then there’s shifter dining. I can do spinach. Won’t be the first time.” He took the bowl from Gil, sniffed the contents, bared his teeth at it, and dumped the whole mess in the trash. He picked up a clean bowl to start from scratch. “Trying to cook. What the hell was you thinking?”

“I was thinking my wife wanted muffins,” Gil said, miffed. “They would have been good, too.”

“Yeah, you keep telling yourself that. You ain’t even got the oven on.” Louie took care of that task. “I dunno why you even still work here. You’s the mayor of the city.” He pronounced it da mayuh. “Ain’tcha worried about your rep?”

“Part of it’s for the rep.” Gil took a seat on a stool by the door, well out of Louie’s way. The chef didn’t like people hovering over his shoulder while he created. “Show my constituents I’m still a regular guy. One of the herd. Or flock, or whatever. The bunnies are the ones who engineered my election. What do bunnies run in?”

“Circles, mostly.” Louie emptied oatmeal, butter, honey and water into the bowl and blended it with a practiced hand. Gil looked on enviously. “Mayor Gil, the common man. Smart move. You’s turning into a regular politician. Next thing y’know you’ll be wearing shades and smoking them smelly cigars.”

“I quit smoking ages ago. Tobacco makes my tongue taste like a dumpster. Now I eat peanuts. Lemme crack the walnuts. I’m pretty sure I can handle that.”

“Okay. They’re in the cupboard over there. How come you don’t drive around in a Caddy like Mayor Link used to?”

“I like Hondas. Though we’ll probably have to upgrade to an SUV, if Chloe’s right about a litter.” The nutcracker slipped in his fingers. “Crap.”

“You okay over there?”

“Yeah, yeah, I got it.” Gil attacked a walnut. Bits of shell went flying. Louie didn’t say anything.

“Every now and then it hits me,” Gil suddenly blurted. “I’m going to be a father. I don’t know if I’m ready for that.”

“Join the club. One day you’s a normal guy, struttin’ around without a care in the world, then alla sudden it’s diapers and crying and feedings in the dead of night. But that don’t last too long. Once they start talking they’re a lot more fun. Then they hit the teens, but you got a ways to go before that happens. Plenty o’ time to go bald.”

“Thanks loads. You have kids?”

“I raised a couple’a rugrats, back inna day. Dunno if I’d have time for it now, what with this place and all. I ask again: you sure you wanna keep working here?”

Gil sighed. “Are you kidding? This is my refuge. I don’t have to be the Mayor here. But I’m going to be ‘Dad’ wherever I go. That’s scarier than being the mayor.”

“’Fraid so. Hey, cheer up. You’re gonna do okay. I mean, look atcha, and you born human and all. You done good at being mayor, and being a bar guy, and being a straight shooter, and being a buddy. As far as being a squirrel, though … eh. Chloe say how much spinach she wants in these?”

“I didn’t ask. Enough so she’ll know I didn’t forget.”

“Okay, but if your kids come out looking like Popeye, don’t come crying to me.” He folded Gil’s walnuts, a banana, and chopped leaf spinach into the batter. “Huh. Don’t look half bad. Lessee how they come out. I might make a batch for samples, see if the customers like ‘em.”

“Like what?” Bettina wandered into the kitchen, yawning. Like Louie, she stopped when she noticed Gil. “You’re in his kitchen? And you’re still alive?”

Gil turned on Louie. “You let her in the kitchen and not me?”

“She don’t try to cook. Wolfgang Puck over there thought he could make muffins,” he explained to Bettina. “His missus gotta craving.”

“Ah. We’re at that point, are we? So of course you came here.” She put her arm around Gil’s shoulders and steered him back into the dining room. “Come with me. We’ll drink ginger ale and chat about children until the muffins are done, or that look goes away from your face. Whichever comes first.”

“What look?” Gil demanded. Louie and Bettina just smiled.

CRAVINGS AND DREAMS

Gill yawned and stretched as he stood up.  Padding to the bathroom, last night’s dream came roaring back.  He shook his head and kept walking.  Somewhere in his journey, his synoptic brain functions took him back to REM sleep mode.

Chloe stood before him licking her lips.  Her gaze roved lower with every lick.  Gill tried to look down but something blocked his view.  He glanced up.  Chloe’s smile widened.  Her teeth stood out in stark relief to the dark red of her lipstick.  Gill squirmed.  A new vision swept over him.  Scenes from the first sex movie he watched engulfed him.  He took on the role of the man getting laid and sucked.  Every dip of the red-lipped seductress down and over his cock and balls shot shivers of hot volcanic need through him.  He swore his balls swelled every time her tongue laved over them.  Sweat peaked and rolled down his brow.  Two more slurps and he’d. . .

His first shot of jism shot out.  Over his seductress' shoulder and on to the wall behind her.  He blinked, squinted, and blinked again.  The wall was a good ten feet behind her.  He couldn’t shot the far and he dribbled.  Some men boasted about their ability to shoot large copious amounts of come.  Gill enjoyed one hard climax and the lingering effect of the heat rolling up his cock and spilling out.  Yes, so he made a mess.  None of his partners ever complained about his taste.  Sweet and nutty is how Chloe described him.

Gill snickered, yawning again.  He picked up pace when a loud sound jolted him out of his sleepwalking.  He looked down.  Two peanut shell halves jammed into the space separating his toes. He bent over ready to extract the nuisance when more crunching and crackling sounded.  He quickly up righted and spun around.  More shells crunched beneath his feet.  Blackie came into view gingerly picking her want through the minefield of peanut and other nuts shells that littered the bedroom floor.  Chloe lay sleeping on her back with a large bowl bag of mixed nuts lying on her stomach.  In one hand, lay the nutcrackers.

Gill swallowed hard, inhaled, and did an about face.  Thank deities above they had hardwood floors. Cleaning up more messes like these if the cravings continued would be easy.  Sleeping in a bed full of nutshell crumbs was another matter. Gill continued to the bathroom knowing this was the first of such craving bouts.  Last night’s sex was hotter than when they first got together.  Did he have the stamina to keep up for the next ten months with whatever else might manifest itself?

Did I Hear You Correctly?

~So I had a different blog in mind for today that went well with the picture above, but Erol has seen fit to throw that one in the trash.  Such a sweet guy, though I will say he stays true to his dragony self.  Anyway, the pic is far to sexy to get rid of, so Erol will have to just suck it...I'm not changing it!  hehe~

Erol set himself down in the court yard of his home in England.  His passengers had fallen asleep several hours back after oohing and aahing every few seconds at how awesome the sea looked from that height.  He loved that he could give his Fair one such a thrill.

“Are we there yet?” Greely asked between yawns and stretches.

“We are, my love,” he said, flicking the tip of his dragon tongue over her plump, warm cheek.
“Though your friend seems uninterested in the fact.” He moved his head to the left of Greely and sent a steamy snort over the sleeping rider.

“Son-of-a…hey, are we here?”

“Yep, but it’s dark and kinda hard to see past the hotel there.”  Greeley pointed towards him home.
“Omygod, Erol, hide or fly away or something, someone might see you…you know as a dragon.”

“It’s okay, love, climb down from there.”  He dropped a wing and placed his head where she could hold on as she disembarked.

“How can it be okay, Erol, I don’t want to see you chased by the pitchfork crowd if you get what I’m saying.”

“Ah, Gree…”

“Not now, Karma, help me convince Erol to escape…oh why did we have to fall asleep…you should have woken us up earlier you big softy…I…”

“Gree!”

“What Karma?  What!”

“This isn’t a hotel, hon.  This is a freaking castle.”

“What?!” Greely’s squeak made his heart lighter.

“That’s a castle! Erol, you’ve been holding out on us.  You own a castle, in freaking England!
Sweet.”

“What?!”  His loves squeak got louder and higher. “A castle, really?  Why didn’t you say something?”

“I wanted it to be a surprise,” he hedged, before shifting into a fully clothed man.

“Hey,” Karma spoke. “I thought the only folks in England to have castles were roy…”

“My Lord, you’ve returned.”

Erol knew the sound of his butler’s voice behind him and inwardly cringed.  He’d missed his chance to enlighten Greely gently.

“OMYGOD you’re a…”

“Duke.”  He finished Karma’s sentence, never once taking his eyes off Greely."
~~~
Okay, do my characters care that they are going to kill me?  Does Erol understand that now I need to add more research to my very limited time?  Clearly, no.  Because he waited until now to let me know that he was, gah...A DUKE!  Have Mercy on me, Erol.  Though, I bet you make a right fine member of the ton!  ~sigh~
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!  And stay warm.  :)
Unicorn Hotline
WE now return you to our regularly scheduled blog post. I store my stuff on Google's cloud server and last week, nothing but nothing could convice Google to actually open, so I couldn't post the next chuck of the hippie and unicorn saga. Google Drive is actually working today, so here's your next instalment.
~ Rebecca
      “Gee an’ Bee, shift desk,” Mooney answered unenthusiastically.
      “Is this the horribly inappropriately named Guts and Butts Gazette?” a snooty voice said from the other end. Mooney recognized the voice for all that it didn’t belong to any local. It was that nasty little yuppie chick who had been staying at the Wilk place with her yuppie boyfriend. Marissa, his mate, had referred to them as “crunchy bobos”. He understood that to be a human term for rich humans who wanted to be New Agers without having to give up any of their material wealth. The crunchy part meant they thought that they could do this by not grooming themselves. This had led to him making a joke about crunchy food, which had led to him having to bunk here at the paper’s office because Marissa had not been amused. Time for a little payback, he though gleefully.
      “It is,” Mooney said, hiding his eagerness behind a mask of boredom and irritation.
      “I need to report a strange sighting,” the disembodied voice replied.
      “Ma’am, this is the town newspaper, not the police department. Would you like the phone number for them?”
      “No, I have got that number but this is important and I don’t want those rednecks you people call law enforcement to sweep it under the rug!”
      “Uh-huh. What have you got?”
      “I am standing in front of the carcass of a unicorn,” the yuppie chick said with great pomp and ceremony, as if she were officiating a wedding.
      “This is also not the substance abuse hot line. Would you like that number instead?” Mooney replied with the same emotionless, slightly bored tone of voice. In reality, he was pulling out his cell phone and texting Moon-Moon, his fellow beta wolf and normal partner-in-crime. Just before hitting the “send” button, he added Lamar and Jamie to the distribution list.
      —Got us a live one. Unicorn sighting— he texted.
      “I am not on drugs!” she hissed through the telephone line, or signal or whatever it was called in this day and age of wireless wires. “I tried to take photos of it myself but the camera on my Galaxy 5S keeps shutting itself off whenever I try to point it at the poor thing. I need someone from the media to come document this before your so-called law enforcement shows up!
      “Have you called the cops yet?” Mooney asked as his cell phone started buzzing with responses.
      “No, I have not,” the crunchy chick replied.
      “OK, I just sent a call out to our on-call reporter and his photog. What’s your location?”
      “The carcass of the unicorn is on the left side of the road next to the bridge by Schitt Creek.”
      “North or south of the bridge?” Mooney asked, annoyed and making sure she heard it.
      “Un, on the side away from town.”
      “North side,” he said. “And by left you mean?”
      “Just tell your reporter to look for the lime green Prius parked on the side of the road. We had to move the car to the side the poor murdered creature was not on because our car kept shorting out.”
      “Um, murdered?” Mooney asked cautiously. Murdered was a strong word in shifter communities. But it seemed to be a frivolous one to those yuppies because they considered all killing a form of murder. In fact, a few of the folks in town had started yelling “murderer” at them every time they took a bite of their free range natural grown salads. The fact that even the town’s bunnies had started taunting them said a lot about just how obnoxious they had become.
      “It has an arrow in it!” she hissed triumphantly.
      “OK, I’ll let the on-call team know. They should be at your location in about fifteen minutes.”
Mooney hung up the phone before the loony-tune could say anything else. Just then, Moon-Moon popped in.
      “What’s up?” he asked cheerfully. Mooney did not even begin to understand how Moon-Moon could be cheerful at ten o’clock at night, but there you had it, Moon-Moon in a nut shell.
      “Wanna go swipe a unicorn out from under the noses of those hippies?
