Jame's Addictions, Chapter 1 Part 1

So I was digging in my WIP files, looking for something to enter into a writing contest, when I stumbled across this jem: Jane's Addictions, a Talbot's Peak story I wrote a couple years ago. So, since I've been as busy as a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest, I thought I'd go ahead and repost it one chunk at a time.

* *******

Chapter 1

Hannibal glanced up when he heard Bambi open the door to the Ranger Station. Then he did a double-take so fast he almost gave himself whiplash. His longtime friend and coworker was no metrosexual by any means, but he was a mule deer and mulies tended to be very neat about their appearance. At 5’10” and 160 lbs, Bambi had the sleek build to pass himself off as a model in his US Forestry Service uniform. Most of the time. At the moment, Bambi was covered in paintball splatters, bird shit, and goat hair. Bo was pretty certain he hadn’t looked like that when he left the station for his regular patrol.

“I take it you ran into something out of the ordinary out there,” Hannibal said, trying his best to school his facial expression into something mature. It didn’t work; he could not keep the corners of his mouth from spasming in and out of a half formed grin. Bambi glared and shook his head as he stepped all the way into the station then off to one side.

“Ba-a-a-a-ah!”

Hannibal jumped at the unexpected noise and got up so he could see over the high counter between the office space and the reception area. What he saw dumbfounded him. A black and white goat—not a mountain goat, which would have been an expected sight in these parts, but a common farm goat—being drug into the station by a rope around its neck. It was also covered in paint and bird shit. And considerably less goat hair than one would have expected.

“Bambi, what the hell is this?” Hannibal asked after a moment.

“I’m guessing it’s a fucking scapegoat.”

“A what?”

“A scapegoat. You do know what that is, right?”

“Easy with the sarcasm, Mike,” Hannibal replied, using Bambi’s real name, something no one, not even Bambi’s family, did unless they were trying to placate him.

“Fuck you and fuck those damned wolves and mountain goats, and whoever had the bright fucking idea to sell paintball guns, flash-bang grenades and god-only-knows what else to mountain goats and wolves!” Bambi snapped as he finally got the domestic goat into the office.

“So…” Hannibal hesitated, hating to agitate Bambi worse. Bambi didn’t swear, not even when he was angry. For him to be dropping the F-bomb multiple time, he had to be way beyond angry. But Hannibal was unable to control his raging curiosity. “What’s up with the scapegoat?”

“I saw that stolen Mazda we got an APB on up on Trailridge Road. It was a fucking set-up.” Bambi paused long enough to stuff the balking goat into a holding cell. “I told them to give up, that I’d just come back with reinforcements if the perp didn’t give him or herself up. This apparently was some kind of signal, because the next thing I knew, someone set off a flash-bang grenade, which scared the shit out of a passing flock of geese—”

“Literally, I see,” Hannibal cut in.

“Yes, literally. The bang also startled one of the wolves, who pulled out his paintball gun and started going to town. The next goddamn thing I knew, there was paintballs and bird shit flying everywhere.”

“And the goat?” Hannibal asked.
“I found it in my patrol car afterwards with a newspaper clipping tucked under the windshield wiper with a hand written note on it saying that if I really wanted a scapegoat, I could have this one.”
“So now what?” Hannibal asked, eyeing the goat.
“Now, I’m going to take a shower while you call Louie and find out if he’s the goddamned fool who sold the paintballs and grenades to the fools up on the Trailridge Road.”
“And the goat?” Hannibal asked cautiously.
“I have no idea what to do with the goat, but I figured I might as well bring the damned thing in for questioning…”

...her stripes showed whenever...

September howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

So, the inspiration for this flash scene hit the other day, and I couldn't resist playing it out. I hope you enjoy.

Also, I'm doing an author interview on Saturday, September 12th at erotic romance author, Kate Hill's blog. Kate Hill is a wonderful, prolific writer. Check her and her books out at ~kate-hill.com/blog~

UPDATE: My author interview has been rescheduled for September 15th instead... yep, the ole scheduling conflict.
~~~~~~
...her stripes showed whenever...
Sapria emerged from a relaxing shower. She smiled as she toweled off her faintly striped skin. Being a zebra shapeshifter, her stripes showed whenever her body temperature heated up.
Several years ago, she'd given up being with human men. The explanations about her stripes had worn thin as a late winter pasture. So, when the opportunity to move to Talbot's Peak territory, and work at the Pleasure Club, had shown up unexpectedly, she'd jumped at it. No, she'd raced toward it.
Sapria reached for the bathrobe, and slipped into the all-engulfing white terry. She let a long sigh escape further relaxing her shoulder muscles. While she enjoyed being a server at the Midnight Stardust Supperclub, they'd been unusually busy this past week.
On her way to the masseuse, Sapria padded out of the health club's shower room, and into a waiting area -- complete with massage-vibrating lounge chairs and soothing background music. Shutting her eyes briefly, she breathed in the lavender blend of essential oils scenting the air.
Since last year, Dante had decreed, or made free, massage therapy for everyone who worked for him -- or at one of the businesses in the Pleasure Club. This was her once-a-week appointment, and Sapria was anticipating Verikucha's extremely talented hands. The woman could turn her into a pool of melted butter.
Yeah, darn good thing she wasn't a lobster shifter. Snort-snuffle-snort, her inner zebra joined in.
"Your table is ready, Sapria." Elisha, the Elk shifter, smiled in her charming way, and motioned toward the door that was now swinging open.
Stepping inside the gorgeously appointed room, done in soft shades of purple and green, Sapria removed her robe. She hung it up, then wrapped a luscious, Pima cotton sheet around herself. This kind of luxury was definitely a good thing.
Hearing the door at the far end open, Sapria turned and looked up. She stopped dead in her tracks.
"What happened to Verikucha?"
Great Striped Equine, how fast was her heart going to race? Instead of her regular woman masseuse, a tall, broad-shouldered man with blazing azure eyes and hair the color of ripened wheat, regarded her. His stance was one of patience, and his professional gaze reminded her of a doctor about to do an exam.
"I understand your masseuse had a personal issue that required her immediate attention."
"Is she okay?" Alarm for the woman who had become more like a friend spiked through Sapria. She fisted the sheet tightly, her instinct to flee while the fleeing was good.
"She is fine. I assure you."
Relief washed over Sapria. "Is there a, a woman masseuse available?" she asked, not wanting to give up her appointment.
The man half-smiled, appearing to be amused. He scented out human yet there was something more. Something indefinable. Obviously, since he was here, he knew about shapeshifters, and the supernatural community that was Talbot's Peak.
Fascinated despite her instinctive fear, Sapria analyzed the story her nostrils were telling her. A powerful and mysterious force coursed through the man's veins. She could taste it just like smelling a predator downwind.
His physique and bearing certainly looked more like a warrior archetype, rather than a gentle giant who could give a good massage. He took a few steps toward the massage table, his expression professionally inviting.
"No, Miss Sapria. I'm the only available masseuse for the next three hours. If you would like to wait, I understand."
Figuring Dante, and his top managers, would never allow anyone of a perverse and dangerous nature to be in this position, Sapria approached the table. "Three hours. No can do. Not today."
"I'll be gentle," he encouraged, his smile minimal. "By the way, my name is Zinoviya."
"Exotic name. May I ask your ethnic heritage?" Careful to expose as little as possible, Sapria climbed on the table, and lay face down.
"My people moved underground during the last ice age. Only a few of us intermingle with upperworld humanity at this time."
That brought up all sorts of intriguing questions. Dang, now her brain brush-fire burned with a multitude of questions.
"Why don't I start with your shoulders?"
His deep resonant voice soothed yet pleasurably skittered through Sapria. No problem, she was in control of herself. Besides, she certainly wasn't in any mood to jump his handsome bones. Nor would she in this circumstance. Respect had been deeply ingrained in her.
With a gentleness that belied his large musculature stature, Zinoviya touched her bare shoulders. Soon he manipulated her muscles, his thumbs pushing away the tension.
Once he'd turned her shoulders into feel-good jelly, he massaged her neck. Again, he used his thumbs to ease away the tightness. As he pressed on the points at the base of her skull, relaxation hummed through her.
Sapria let herself succumb to his different, yet talented style of massage. He moved his hands to her head, manipulating her pressure points. Limbless, she felt him pull the sheet down to her waist.
Beginning at her shoulders again, he kneaded her muscles using a deliberate and effective method. Gradually, he worked his way down her back. His thumbs were pushing away the tension in the small of her back when suddenly 'nothing'. Nothing.!
Sapria heard his retreating footsteps as she blinked, as her mind sparked back to life. What now?
With the heaviness of a brewing thunderstorm, moments passed. Should she just get up and leave?
Okaaay...what else was there to do? Not looking in his direction, Sapria stirred and began to rise.
"My apologies, Sapria. I cannot continue the massage."
Her heart skipped a beat as she kept her back to him and sat upright on the table. "No problem...I'll just leave now." Grabbing the sheet so she was covered, Sapria scooted off the table.
Feeling surreal, unaware of her own steps, Sapria headed for the door.
"I'll be seeing you soon. Count on that, Sapria."
She said nothing as awareness of him slithered down her spine. The man wanted her.
About to step through the door, she heard. "You have lovely stripes."
Shiftus Interruptus
We’ll get back to the modeling story at a later date. Here, for your Labor Day enjoyment, is a scene I can’t recall ever reading in a shapeshifter novel. Enjoy.
# # #
Slowly Callisto removed her bra, then her lacy panties. She stood before Andrew, clad only in shadow and the faint strips of light from the window. He caught his breath. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered.
She draped herself across the bed, her legs spread wide. “Come and get it, Studly.”
He needed no further urging. Tearing at his belt and fly, he practically dove on top of her. He crushed his mouth to hers and demanded all she had. Callisto met his assault with her own hungry response. Their tongues wrestled while their hands raced greedily over each other’s nude bodies.
Already hard, Andrew dipped his fingers into Callisto’s well and found her ready and eager. He swirled his tongue around her straining nipple while his finger traced a similar path around her clit. Callisto thrust her hips at him in a desperate search of the ultimate prize.
“I should make you wait,” he teased her. “But first … ” He thrust two fingers into her pussy.
Callisto let out a lusty cry that abruptly dropped two octaves. Fur sprouted between the fingers of the hand clamped to her breast.
“Oh shit,” Andrew moaned. “Not again.”
He dove off the bed, bare inches ahead of her sudden transformation. Callisto’s cry morphed into a full-throated bawl as her body morphed into something else. Something crushingly huge. She reached after her lover with a wide paw tipped with vicious claws.
Still bawling, she rolled over. The bed frame creaked and collapsed.
The grizzly bear sat up and surveyed the damage. Her frustrated roar shook the window.
A little yip distracted her. She swept her tiny ursine eyes around the room and finally found the terrified red fox scrunched under the dresser. She leaned toward him and whimpered a question.
The fox crawled out and shook himself. They stared at each other. The fox sat. The bear slumped amid the wreckage of the bed and whined dejectedly.
After several calming breaths the fox managed to shift himself back into Andrew. He approached the bear and stroked her fur. “Well,” he said. “That was … interesting.”
It took almost ten minutes of gentle petting and crooning on Andrew’s part before Callisto calmed enough to regain her human shape. Her face started crumpling before her muzzle fully receded. “I’m so sorry. I thought this time … ”
“Shhh. It’s okay.” Andrew kissed the remains of her muzzle. “We’ll wait a bit. Try again. Maybe have a couple of drinks. Alcohol’s supposed to be a depressant.” He kicked a piece of the bed frame aside. “Find another room. Hope Dante’s got insurance.”
“I hate this!” Callisto sobbed. “I want to, I really do. But as soon as I get really into it, the adrenaline kicks in and I … shit.” She punched the pillow. “Mama warned me about this. It’s a species thing. We never really got over mating in bear form.”
Andrew grinned. “So I bring out the animal in you?”
“It isn’t funny.” She snorted. “So now what?”
“We could try those drinks. Or herbal tea or something. Give each other hand jobs. Maybe that’ll take the edge off. Or I could hump you in your bear form. That sounds like fun.”
Callisto eyed him sourly. “I’d crush you.”
“But what a way to go.”
She smacked him on the shoulder. Andrew almost tumbled off the remains of the bed. “Let’s try the tea,” Callisto decided. “I knew I should have taken those meditation classes. They worked for my sister.”
“You sure that wasn’t the um, recreational herbs?”
“At this point, I’ll try anything. I know the bunnies chew some kind of leaf. If anything, they’re even jumpier than bears.”
“Or … ” Andrew slid his arm around her broad shoulders. “We could just sit here and cuddle. See what happens.”
“There’s that.” Callisto nuzzled his hair. “I love you. My little foxy fucker.”
Andrew leaned into her arms. “My big tough teddy bear.”
A New Serial: Two Dragons for Lilly Chapter 1 Part 2
“Ned, you keep that up and Mayor Gill is going to complain.  His mate doesn’t like that we’re under their toddlers’ bedroom.  Turn the heat down on your horny imagination, okay?”  Adam reached for his mug of coffee.  Strong double espresso laced with raspberry chocolate syrup.  His sweet tooth ached every time he saw Lilly.   Ned brought home free samples from her shop thanks to the friendship he struck up with another soccer fan down at the boys and girls club in town.
“Yeah, I know.  I don’t plan on doing more than warming the wee ones overhead snug in their beds.” Smoke curled out of Ned’s nose.  “Taming the flame that lass set’s off is going to take more than all of Antarctica to cool down.”
Adam shook his head, trying hard to not spray coffee on the computer screen he looked at.  He gulped down the coffee he’d drank before Ned let loose one of his blasted puns.  “Look here,” Adam began, setting his mug down.  “Lust will melt your guitar picks if you aren’t careful.  You know we got a recording contract to fulfill too.”
Ned flipped him the bird and stuck out his forked tongue.  With an unintended lisp, he said, “Blowing raspberries ain’t easy with a forked tongue.”
Adam chortled.  “Ah, but think of the double pleasure we give our partner’s clitoris when we take a few pleasing licks.”
Ned slammed his fist down on the table rattling the coffee pot and other mugs sitting on the table.  Woody’s heavy footsteps sounded from down the hall.  He called out as he approached, “Ned you breaking tables and dishes again?”
Adam saluted Ned with his mug, and kept sipping, keeping his eyes on the computer screen in front of him.
Woody stuck his head into the kitchen.  “Well, Ned?”
“Ah come on bloke, you didn’t hear any china cracking or a spoon hitting the floor.”  Ned picked up the pages in front of him.  “Just trading inspirational ideas with Adam to get our song writing juices going again.”
“Fine.  Remember, this lair is our home, not some hole in the ground or dank musty wet cave.”   Woody started back down the hall, calling out again.  “And, mate shopping can wait until the CD is done.”
“Frack!” Ned cursed, flames shooting out of his mouth.
Adam picked up the fire extinguisher near the table, pointed one end of the hose at him. “Antarctica is melting fast enough.  Calm your dragon down.”
Ned narrowed his eyes and laid both hands on the table as he leaned forward.  The glow in his eyes grew until only yellow remained visible.   He blinked, exhaled, and stuck out his tongue.  Three golden red medium sized charcoals landed on the table close to a heavy metal cover dish center of the table.
Adam reached over, picked up the tongs laying on the lay under the dish and handed them to Ned.  “Thanks for reminding me.  Take care of yours while I get mine under control.”
Adam closed his eyes.  He never liked displaying his off antics.  The group agreed that keeping tabs on each other worked better than having an outsider freaking out every time they separated their internal dragon from their essential core.  Ned would need to see his eye color change and the coals end up on the table.  Hazel colored eyes didn’t take well to the blast of heat and corralling of the energy that took place.  His human heritage came out from time to time and his eye color was one of them.
Adam opened his eyes, looked up until his gaze met Ned’s.  Ned nodded.  Adam leaned forward, laid both hands on the table and muttered an ancient Gaelic curse.  Heat rose from deep in his groin, pushing upwards until beads of sweat rolled off his brow.  He repeated the curse again,  tasting smoke, and the flash of heat rising up his throat.  Opening his mouth, he stuck out his tongue, four similar sized coals landed on the table.  Ned handed him the tongs.  The lid on the dish clattered shut shortly thereafter.  A red ring grew in size where the top of the bowl and the lid met.  Two of the band knew the words that unlocked the bowl’s magic.  Each knew half of the spell.  That way neither could grab the power the coals held from any of the others.
Happy Weekend Gang!
Ned and Adam are back and their story moves forward.  Dragons with dual essences, wow!  These guys are different for sure. This is going to be one interesting story it looks like.
Fall is definitely in the air.  Nights are cooler from time to time.  Some leaves are already changing color.  The heat strikes out with Summer not wanting to yield its time.  Who can blame it?  That cold blast lasting into March makes me want to start buying up longjohns now!
Remember to keep a few good books handy to share with loves and Spice.  I know I am!
Until Next Week,
Hell of a Hunt...
Hi all, well another shorty from me...actually, it may be shorty's for a while on my front.  I've been dealing with a problimatic hand and wrist for the entire summer and am now getting PT for it.  I'd initially thought it was carpel, but happily I was wrong!
Anyway, exercises and periodic splinting has been called for, so my typing time is limited for now.
I hope you enjoy Nick and Ziva's continuing trial in short spurts.
By the by, the picture has nothing to do with today's blog, but it just felt like a good day to admire this classic shot.  ~sigh~
~~~

Nick stood beside his brother and behind his nephews watching as, together, they culled the young deer from the herd.  Damn those boys were good.  It really shouldn’t surprise him considering they were McMahons.

He and Mooney were one hell of a hunting pair when they were young…still were if the truth be told, but he would cop to being worried about how the boys would do, being raised by their vegetarian mother. Marissa may be their step-mother, but she, unquestionably, loved those boys like every mother should.  How though, could a veggie lover understand the need to hunt red meat?

Today showed he shouldn’t have worried.

She’d proved him wrong though and he was happy to admit that it had to be her love that encouraged the boys to be who they were.

Holy Lupa.  That thought alone had him wondering what he and Ziva would do if Cooper or Rain decided to follow a herbie lifestyle instead of a carnie one?

Love them, Dumbass.  He could hear Ziva’s voice in his head as if she was standing in front of him.  Of course they’d be loved, even if they only ate carrots and stuff.

Something tugged at his awareness, made his hackles rise and pulled him from his musings.  A howl and not just any howl, her howl.  Ziva’s pained cry pierced his soul and froze everyone around them.  Nick raised his snout and let loose with an answering howl of his own before he took off in search of his hurt mate.  At his back were Mooney and his boys as well as Reetha.  Training was a family affair, as was rescue.

Ziva had been stationed in front of the gorge to make sure there were no accidents, yet somehow she’d had one of her own…she was going to be pissed.  If Ziva were hurt terribly, he could only hope that piss and vinegar kept her alive and aware until he reached her.

Have a wonderful weekend!

...fierce as a flash flood...

End of summer howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

Really, can you believe this is the first day of September? Gosh, time isn't flying, it's at quantum speed.

Today the Muse insisted on working on Keina and Drev's erotic love story, Waiting For a Filly Girl, my SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS WIP. Here's an *unedited, raw draft* from the beginning of Chapter Thirty-seven. This scene snippet is X-rated.

Tagline: Ex super-soldier boy meets winged filly girl. Will they live happily ever after? In Talbot's Peak territory anything is possible.

~~~~~~
From Chapter Thirty-seven
In erotic bliss, Keina undulated to the long powerful thrusts of her stud man. Her equess had been ignited to a heightened level, and the pleasure of their passionate coupling moved through her, fierce as a flash flood.
Their lips broke apart as Drev tangled his fingers deeper into hair. He quickened the strike of his cock, the rhythm still a smooth ebb and flow.
"Keina." His raspy voice held it all, his love, his raw passion—how much he cherished her as his woman.
"Drev." She sensually slipped her lips along his jawline, and roamed her hands over his back.
Running wild with passion, Keina clamped her legs tighter around his, and danced her hips at a furious pace. Her bliss surged becoming orgasmic.
Rapture storm-crashed through her, and eventually carried her over the sweet and sharp edge. She fell into the oblivion of orgasm, unable to call out her stud man's name, unable to use her voice at all.
Drev lunged to her core, his cock filling her like the most potent stallion. Her ecstasy intensified, keeping her motionless.
With her eyes closed, she heard Drev's virile groan, his extreme pleasure obvious. Gutturally, he shouted his climax.
Keina soared with him, her mind suddenly connected to his, as often happened to couples in her realm.
Becoming aware of her rapid breaths, Keina emerged, and felt her hands sweep over his back, slick with sweat. Her equess sheath spasmed around his cock, delicate bursts of pleasure.
"Keina, my filly girl." Drev lovingly nuzzled her neck.
He raised above her, captured her in an embrace, and rolled them over so she lay sprawled on top of him. Their mouths immediately joined as if their lips had been magnetized. They kissed languidly, thoroughly, and with a depth of feeling that sent her winging high inside.
"Drev." Keina fondled his nose with hers. "I love you, stud man."
"I love you," he intimately purred.
"I love you more." Keina planted tiny kisses all over his mouth.
"I love you more." His voice, the power of his feeling for her sent a bubbly-fizzy happiness through Keina.
Giddy, in a teasing tone, she repeated, "I love you more."
Their battle of I love you's began, interspersed with sweltering kisses, and the lazy twining of their tongues.
