Got Quarters?
“This is all Cami Ann’s fault.” Zeva grumbled, circling the too small school desk, tugging at the too short skirt for the umpteenth time tonight.
If she’d not had to rescue her sister from yet another boneheaded idea she’d not have been late for her shift at Dante’s Interspecies Pleasure Club. Had she not been late, her server shift would not have been given to another and she wouldn’t have ended up locked in a glass box waiting for the patrons to pay a quarter to watch her self-pleasure.
Happy Valentine’s Day to her.
“Zeva, you have to relax, doll.” Angel’s voice came through the speaker in the corner, gum cracking and all, from the box next door. “I know it’s your first time back here, but as wound up as you are you’ll never ring the bell. Shoot, you’re liable to shift mid-lecture and you know how Dante feels about shifting shows…”
“Yeah, I got the feeling it was a big no-no.”
“Oh honey, there’s a whole ‘nother section here for that kind of peep show.”
Appropriately named, Angel was dressed as an angel of mercy. She had a short white uniform, stethoscope and a thermometer the size of a summer sausage. Rumor had it she could perform miraculous acts with that sucker. She was also the only employee who worked the glass rooms full-time. Angel had shared her love of the job while helping Zeva into her costume for the night, that of a private school teacher. It gave Angel a good feeling to know that everyone who left her room, left with a smile.
Zeva envied that kind of job contentedness. She, herself, was still looking for it.
“Oooh doll, looks like you’re about to have some company and I am pea-green over here, that’s for sure. Relax and enjoy!”
Angel’s voice cut out at the same time as Zeva’s heart sped into overdrive. Could she really do this? She was far from prudish about sex and she was happy with her own body, but she’d never done this for an audience before. Masturbation had always been something she’d done alone, with the lights dimmed low and a certain oblivious to the situation mate on her mind.
Zeva leaned against the desk, one leg out to the side and her bare ass atop the cold wood surface. With her back to the door and her eyes closed she took a deep breath. She could do this. She would just envision whoever was now opening the door and entering to be the wily wolf, who’d tortured her practically from birth.
With a ruler in hand and her teacher persona firmly in place, she waited for the sound of money to fill the box, out front. The minutes felt like hours and still the patron placed no money in the slot.
“This isn’t a free show,” she spoke with as much authority as she could muster over the flurry of nerves gripping her stomach.
“Oh, I’ve got money.”
Zeva gurgled and turned, hoping she was wrong about the owner of the deep sexy voice behind her. Please let it be anyone else. Some anonymous playboy only looking for a little Valentine’s peep, even a grizzled old, smoke voiced woman would be preferable to who really stood there…Taggert Nickolas McMahon and boy was he pissed.
“I’ve got enough money to last the rest of the night, Z. Now climb astride that desk, flash me your pretty ass and show me what you can do with a ruler, baby.”

Guest Blogger - JL Oiler
Hey Shapeshifter fans, do we have a treat for you today! Guest blogging with us is JL Oiler. Please help me give her a howling hello...
Hi JL!
~Thanks for having me here today!! I am JL Oiler, erotic paranormal romance author.
How long have you been writing and who are your publishers?
~I have been writing since I was a teenager, but never had the courage to attempt that next step until last January. I currently have releases with Rebel Ink Press and Silver Publishing.
How did you celebrate your first release?
~I was so excited that I danced around the house for hours calling everyone on my phone contact list until my husband came home from work. To celebrate he took me out to a nice dinner, being certain to tell the waitress and anyone who stopped long enough to listen that I just released a book.
Do you find it difficult at times to write love scenes?
~Being the mother of an active four year old has a great number of challenges, writing love scenes are just one of them. To create those sections for my stories I really need to get myself into that mind set which proves to be difficult at times with my son pulling at my shirtsleeve asking me to find the remote to his favorite toy or read him a book. For that reason, I generally leave those scenes until after bedtime, when I can light some sweet smelling candles and work in peace to a nice love song.
Have you written a series?
~I am part of an anthology series with my wicked writing siblings about a group of Marine Recon Soldiers. The first one in the series is due out on March 1, Titled- Force Recon: Beacon Bayou. The first in my own Erotic Ménage Series was just released, Kinship Trinity.
Which book did you spend the most time researching and why?
~I usually do extensive research into all my stories, for one detail or another. I think if you want the worlds you create to be believable then it has to pay homage to known truths.
I am currently working on a new Ménage story that required a good bit of research into mythical monsters. I wanted to be true to the ideas passed down when it came to descriptions, while adding my own little twist, so spent hours going over research to find details to incorporate into the piece. The story involves gatekeepers who deal with some nasty monsters one might expect to find in Hades, creatures like Succubus, Kelpie, and Adze (a vampire like creature). The end result is something I feel good about and the readers can visualize easily.
Tell us a bit about your new release.
My latest release was Feb. 9th, with Rebel Ink Press. Here are the particulars:
Title: KINSHIP TRINITY
Publisher: Rebel Ink Press
Cover art: Carl Franklin
Blurb:
Time changes all. The world of humankind is gone, replaced by a landscape marred with the aftermath of war and disease. This is the world of the Were. However, even their existence hangs perilously by a thread. The ratio of males to females has become unbalanced and the ruling council is struggling to bring order to its people through the creation of strong clans. Clans lead by not one Alpha Were, but two.
Cirri works within the confines of the council hall, evaluating and confirming the rosters of each group seeking clanship. Knowing the day would come when she would be a claimed mate, Cirri just never expected it to be so soon. Or that her mates would take her to the edge of ecstasy and beyond.
Meru and Arcos have traveled to the remnants of the human city seeking clanship even though they've yet to find their perfect mate. Fighting for their right to keep their clan together, neither Were expected to catch the scent of the female who was destined to be their third. But when their clanship paperwork causes a stir within the council, Arcos, Meru and Cirri find themselves fighting for their lives and that of their followers.
Well, thanks for having me here it has been an honor. Readers can find me at http://www.joiler.weebly.com/

Guts & Butts Gazette, volume 2011-2-9
Police Blotter
2/7 - Disturbing the Peace. Police were called in to break up a sit-in protest at City Hall. A group calling themselves The Eastern Rockies Wiccan Alliance staged a protest at Talbot’s Peak City Hall Monday to protest a proposed bill to make it punishable by law to make predictions that don’t come true. Sheriff Joe Hackett expressed confusion at the protest, noting that there isn’t and “Eastern” part to the Rocky Mountains and the proposed law was for Romania, not Montana. While the protest did remain peaceful, the sheriff felt it was appropriate to break up the rally as the protesters were clearly out of their minds.
2/5 - DUI. Police made a routine stop of a vehicle being driven by a male, Guri Kahn. After observing Mr. Kahn slurring his words and muttering about cookies and cream, the officer administered a road-side sobriety test. Mr. Kahn threw up on the officer. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving but released on his own recognizance after he “accidentally” ate the breathalyzer equipment.
2/1 - UFO sighting. Calls began streaming into the Talbot’s Peak police hot-line about strange light seen floating over the forest behind The Pleasure Club. Officers investigated but found nothing other than an odd depression in the snow. As there was no blood spotted this time, they left.

“What are you doing, monkey-child!?!” Marissa looked up from the paper and scowled at Lex.
“I’m reading the paper over my morning coffee, oh shriveled hairless one,” she replied snidely, waving the paper in his face to emphasize her point.
“I should have known you would neglect your duties to me,” Lex sniffed snottily. Marissa roller her eyes and went back to reading her paper. She couldn’t help but snicker over that bit about the fake witches protesting some law in another country. Real witches didn’t make bad predictions.
“So what did I fail to do this time?” she drolled.
“The party, stupid child! The party! Did you forget?”
“Lex, Valentine’s Day isn’t till next Monday. We have time.”
“But everything must be purr-fect!” he whined. She hated when Lex did that. He ended up exaggerating his R’s so it sounded like an over-grown housecat in heat. Come to think of it…
“What,” Marissa said, becoming alarmed. “Since when do you care about Valentine’s Day? Or any other human holiday?”
“Because it’s the perrr-fect setting to reveal my lasted creation,” Lex replied.
“NO!” Marissa shouted.
“Oh, yesss,” Lex hissed gleefully. “I have finally managed to recreate my grandfather’s recipe for love elixirs. The mortal day of love will be just the right time to try it out!”
“Great,” Marissa huffed under her breath. “Next week my coffee shop is going to be in the blotter. ‘Mad cat-god accidentally turns patrons into frogs with foul-smelling smog.’”
“What did you say, monkey-child?” Lex inquired.
“Nothing Lex. I do hope you remember what happened the last time you used our cliental to try out one of your smelly concoctions. I don’t really want to be run out of this town like we were the last one…”
She rather liked Talbot’s Peak. And This year, she might actually have a sweetheart for Valentine’s Day, she mused to herself. Of course, there was no telling what a bachelor wolf like Mooney would consider a romantic gift, but so long as it was for her from her very first boyfriend, she didn’t really care. Much. He’d better not bring her something recently dead and bloody.
The Love Wolfess ~ Heartbroken Howls Before Valentine's Day

The Love Wolfess ~ Heartbroken Howls Before Valentine’s Day

By the time his potent, to-pant-for scent twitched her nostrils, Sozchy had already answered about every Valentine’s Day question ever thought of, from patrons at Dante’s Pleasure Club, and from her radio show callers...so it felt.
She adjusted her headset, ignoring the spike of her hormones -- probably bouncing off Mother Moon by now -- and punched up the evening’s last call.
“This is the Love Wolfess,” she throatily sang in her on-air voice. “What’s your question, Dharla?”
Sniffles answered her. Then, a tiny sob erupted.
The grand room, bathed by red and pink illumination, and festooned with neon-light heart shapes, faded into the background as Sozchy intuitively focused on the distraught young werewolf woman. The flirtatious and intimate murmurings of the fifty plus couples, along with the singles looking for love mates, also disappeared for her.
“Dharla, dear, I hear heartbroken howls before Valentine’s Day...talk to me...please.”
“How do I...do I? Well...I know he’s my mate...and...”
“How do you know, dear?” Sozchy kept her tone gentle, while her intuition razored her with images of the werewolf lout who had obviously humped and dumped Dharla.
“I...I can’t get him out of my mind. I’m in heat all the time. I can’t sleep...or eat.” The last two words were a pathetic whine. “And...and now I have no one for Valentine’s Day.” Dharla howled, a pitiful strangled sound. “I’m sooooooo miserable. I’m all alone. What do I do?”
Sobs crackled loudly over the line, and Sozchy pressed the mute button. “Dharla,” she softly crooned once the werewolf woman sniffled again. “Listen to me. Do you know about Mating Truth tea?”
“Yes-s-s-s...”
“Have you tried drinking it?”
“No-o-o-o...”
Sozchy inhaled a huge breath and stopped her eyes from rolling. Summoning her most professional voice, she leaned toward the microphone. “This is what you do, Dharla. Brew the tea and sip it slowly. Draw a hot bath, and then take a long soak. If you have violet and oak leaf infused Epsom Salts, add that, or just the Salts. Are you with me so far?”
“Yes.” At least, Dharla’s voice didn’t quaver.
“If you’re still not sleepy go for a long run in the woods. You know the safe areas.”
“Okay.”
“Trust your body, Dharla. Sleep for as long as you need. Then, I want you to go out and find a new party outfit for Valentine’s Day...whether or not you’re in the mood.” Sozchy paused. “Do you understand?”
“I understand.” Dharla spoke after several seconds.
“Good. Good girl. Now, what you’re going to do is decide where to party on Valentine’s Day. With friends. At a special place --“
“I can come to the Pleasure Club...right?”
“Of course, Dharla. We’re celebrating here every night. And, there will be several different party rooms on Valentine’s Day. May I have a party coordinator contact you?”
“Oh hell, yes!” An excited squeal-howl followed.
“Goodnight, Dharla. Love is on it’s way to you.”
Love is on it’s way to you. Sozchy’s own heartfelt words mocked her as she took off the headset, then automatically shut down the broadcasting equipment. Scat! She couldn’t even get the huntress side of her motivated these days.
A strange rabbit, not a shapeshifter, had begun living in her yard. And more bizarre, the cottontail had decided the engine block of her jeep was its favorite place to hangout.
Sozchy had taken to opening the hood before turning on the ignition. More often than not the rabbit gazed back at her. It had done so earlier in the evening, before she’d driven to the Pleasure Club for her radio gig.
To her shame, and she’d told not one other shapeshifter soul, Sozchy had begun cooing and talking to the bunny, while it watched her with one large brown eye. Yip-yeah, just like a tail-whipped human. That is, until the apparently suicidal cottontail decided to hop away on its own.
After a long sigh, Sozchy willed herself to toughen up. So, her life was a stinky pile of scat when it came to love, and having a mate of her own. On the bright-moon side, her radio show had taken off like a chasing sprint with no sign of slowing down.
Sozchy stood straightening her swingy short red dress. After a shake and toss of her long loose hair, she sniffed for the alpha wolf shifter who had skyrocketed her hormones.
To her disappointment, only a trail of his dominant musk scent remained. She knew him as Devil Wind, but to his tribe he was Howling Wolf Wind. The Sheriff of a nearby Indian reservation, no doubt he had arrived to form an alliance with Talbot’s Peak.
And, no doubt, she belonged to the mists of his memory. Sixteen in human years, and running wild as a teenage wolf in the forest, she’d been chasing any prey animal that moved.
She’d consumed her fill, but simply ran for the sport of it, her muscles carrying her swiftly, easily. Well, she’d charged straight into the path of a mother bear and her cub.
With a mighty bellow of outrage, the mother bear lunged upward, and swiped colossal claws at her. Springing out of the way, barely, Sozchy had twisted in midair. About to race for her life, she’d seen a Dire Wolf rush past her.
Snapping like a fiend, Devil Wind darted back and forth, protecting her. Yet, he’d done nothing to harm the mother bear and her squalling cub.
Spinning on her hind legs, Sozchy had joined him. Between the two of them, they’d convinced the mother bear to give up, then amble after her distraught cub.
After their telepathic introductions to each other, Sozchy had tried to thank him. She’d nose-kissed him before heading home. However, he’d remained beside her every inch of the way, a monstrous dark gray wolf on guard.
Once she arrived at her parent’s stone house on the range, about twenty miles outside of Talbot’s Peak, she’d halted behind the barn. Sozchy hadn’t wanted her parents to know about her narrow escape. Not until she’d had time to think about an explanation.
Before she knew it, they’d both shifted to their human forms. As if it had been ordained, they’d flung their naked bodies against each other. Embracing with a passion that still took her breath away, their kisses had been wild, impossibly frantic, yet somehow sumptuous as a feast.
And then, he’d gone away. On the brink of surrendering her virginity to him, Sozchy had been about to speak the words as their gazes seared into one another, as their pants rushed and raged.
How often had she recalled that moment? When nothing could have torn them apart. When her much smaller body desperately pressed against the big brute strength of his... when he’d held her with all the might of his desire for her... when... but, he’d cupped her face between his large, large hands.
She’d seen it in the depths of smoke and amber eyes then. He was leaving. He didn’t want to take her virginity. He didn’t want her.
After shaking her head to erase the remembrance for now, Sozchy waved to those in the club who were acknowledging her with a wave of their hand. Some blew kisses of appreciation toward her, while some wagged furry tails. Spreading her arms wide, she sent her love vibes to the interspecies crowd.
The real smile on her face didn’t last long, though, as she walked toward the small comfy room Dante had provided for her. It served as her office, a changing room and a place to sleep if she didn’t want to drive, or lope home.
“Sozchy.”
About to open the door, she whipped around. He stood there, as ferociously imposing as ever. Not that she’d actually glimpsed him before now... not since she’d tracked him down to his territory a few days after their encounter.
She only knew about his appointment to Sheriff, some seven years ago, because she’d seen it on the local news. Damn, he was as ruggedly-feral handsome as she remembered.
With her mouth suddenly parched, Sozchy stopped herself from licking her lips. Hell’s bite, her vocal chords were frozen, too. And, all she could think about was -- why hadn’t she scented him?
His gaze ravished her face with a hunger that had her backing up. Before Sozchy knew it she practically clung to the door. Her nails scraped, embarrassing her, and she balled her hands.
“The Love Wolfess.” His guttural tone sensually devoured her insides.
“Need some advice?” she choked out, only her voice sounded like a breathy come-on.
“Maybe.” The glint of his black-as-obsidian eyes suggested ‘advice’ wasn’t what he was after.
“Maybe?” Again, her tone sounded like a seductive invitation. If she could reach the door latch...
“Maybe, after I’ve possessed you every which way but loose...little woman wolf.” His gaze flashed wild with need. “My woman wolf,” he growled.
Shockwaves captured her insides as he leapt with deceptive speed, and captured her flush against him. His hand sank into her hair and fisted.
With one tug that claimed her as his, he brought her face beneath his. Briefly his gaze penetrated her soul, then his mouth trapped hers. The crush of his kiss soared her to heaven’s gate, even as her mating lust turned her raw and wickedly hot.
Their mouths fused, too long denied. Holding her hair taut, he slid one hand beneath her dress, and swept his palm over the curves of her hip, her thigh, her ass.
His utterly dominant handling of her didn’t stop as their mouths fiercely tangled -- as his lips blistered her lips with such pleasure, she whimpered for more.
His kisses consumed her for the longest time, as her kisses consumed him. Howl to the goddess, she wanted anything he wanted to give her.
Suddenly releasing her hair, he pushed her against the hard surface of the door. “Sozchy.”
“Sozchy.” He rasped her name again. “Look at me.” When she surrendered her gaze to him, to the twin suns that were his eyes, he caressed between her thighs.
Aroused her to an unbearable wildness, all she could do was feel his large rough hand stroking her inner thighs. All she could do was feel the sweep of his palm over her yielding body.
His name burst past her lips, “Devil Wind.”
His eyes flared, savage with need. Savage for her. His lowered his head and his kiss embraced her mouth. His kiss lingered until her heart thudded ridiculously fast -- until she swooned against him.
With a groan, he blazed kisses down her throat. The sweet torture didn’t end as his lips fondled the sensitive flesh of her breastbone.
When he scorched a kiss on the hollow of her throat, his lips stayed. Sozchy moaned, belonging to him.
His lips caught hers, again. Commanding her passions, he boldly cupped her sex. His big palm kneaded possessively, and Sozchy helplessly keened a moan.
“Mate,” he growled,
“Prove it,” she dared.

Literary Inspiration

Jamie wasn’t some nosy Nellie who went around poking through other people’s private business. But the fifth time Lamar left the spiral notebook open on the table with all its little inky squiggles staring up at the world, he figured if Lamar had wanted it kept hid he’d’ve hid it in the first place. Besides, canines just naturally sniff over everything they come across. It’s inborn.
Five pages later Lamar strolled in, with big eyes and using his high, fakey surprised voice. “Oh, you found it.”
“Oh yeah.” His voice sounded like it had been hit with a sledgehammer. “You write this?”
“You like it?”
Jamie dropped the notebook. “It’s porn.”
“It’s erotic romance,” Lamar corrected. “My hobby. Writing for the paper sucks. This is art, like your photography.”
“You wrote a dirty book.”
“I wrote seven dirty books. They sell like gangbusters on Amazon.”
Jamie continued to frown at the notebook. “It’s got two guys doing it.”
“So? We’re two guys doing it. Write what you know.”
“And people want to read about that?”
“Lots of ‘em, according to my sales figures. One had a threesome in it. Sales went through the roof.”
Jamie eyed the notebook like Lamar had dredged it up out of a swamp. “I knew you were a dirty birdie, but … How do you come up with this stuff?”
“I used to get a lot of it from Danny. I’d take him to lunch, get him talking and have a whole plot in an hour. I wish he’d get back from Alaska. My publisher’s pressuring me for a sequel to ‘Three to Samba.’”
“You don’t write about us, do you?” Jamie asked warily.
“Not yet.” He waggled his eyebrows. “How’d you like to be immortalized in print? My big sex scene between Adam and Cade is coming up. Now that Danny’s MIA I have to do research again.”
“No thanks. I ain’t helping you write porn. I don’t even read that romance stuff.”
“That’s true. You’re stuck on that boring Tom Clancy. We need to fix that.” He slithered over to Jamie and slid his arm around his shoulders. His tongue flickered over Jamie’s ear. “‘Cade approached Adam with lust in his eyes. He nuzzled his lips along the line of Adam’s jaw. Adam said – ’”
“Quit it, you damn horny snake!”
“Mmm, no. I was thinking more along the lines of, ‘Take me, you hot, sexy brute.’”
“No way I’d ever say that.”
“Never say never. Ooooh, look. Doggie’s got a bone. Bet you never got that from Tom Clancy.”
Jame blushed red as his shaggy hair. “You’re a perv.”
“No, I’m a writer. Same thing. You want to join me in the bedroom for a plotting session? I don’t know yet how to finish that scene you were so wrapped up in.”
Jamie blushed harder. “You don’t write half bad, you know. You just need to work on your subject matter.”
“Exactly what I’m trying to do.” He slapped his crotch. The bulge there announced the Hooded Cobra had poked its head out of its hole. “C’mon, chico. For literature.”
“Well, if it’s in a good cause, Mr. … ” He tapped the front of the notebook. “Tempest Arouze?”
“It sells better if they think a woman wrote it. Now drop those Dockers, wolfie. I feel inspiration coming on.”

This is my way of announcing, in a Talbot’s Peak context, that today is release day for “Belonging.” Lamar doesn’t write vampire novels because he’s never slept with one, but I don’t let little things like that stop me. The actual blog about the book is over on Title Magic, www.titlemagic.blogspot.com. I can repost it here on one of our open days. Just provide a date.

Owl Wisdom Octavia Style

Octavia swooped lower, screeching in response to the private jet roaring over her head. Her eyes roved the horizon, taking in every nuisance, noting each movement and individual—human or animal. She knew he was here, searching just as she was.
Tongson held the answer or the questions. The powers-that-be refused to say which.
“Damn you Spirit Bear,” she screeched as another larger jet screamed over head. “Why is this place of noise and large objects trying to imitate my brethren so blasted important?”
Flaying her wings against the upward drafts and currents threatening to carry her away from her intended goal, Tavia scanned the humans stand closer to the largest building. Air travel fascinates non-shifters and those of the four legged shifter types. To her, it was as much part of who she was as who she wasn't. Neither fully human nor avian, Tavia, high priestess of the Owl Clan, knew each side of her duality contained dark and light aspects.
Tongson understood. As clan leader of the Bear elders, he wielded magic and power few knew existed. True half-breeds lived. Dual natures worked together, honing their senses and strengths until where one stopped or the other started only the spirits and powers-that-be knew.
Tongson’s unusual triplicate nature fascinated too many to allow him safety except when he could hide his magic. One-quarter Native American, one-quarter Japanese, and half shapeshifter made him stand out if his magical signature and essence went unchecked. Only the darkest of magical beings or those that sought supremacy dared to come after him. Now a new terror threatened their tribal hierarchy. A menace hunted them and those that they protected. What madness, greed and covetousness created.
Closest to the building that housed sleeping humans, she spotted him. Arcing higher, she screeched in a code only those of the clan priesthoods understood. Tucking her wings tighter to her body, Tavia dove aiming for Spirit Bear, praying her message reached him before he moved out of range.
