Is It Coffee or Coffffffeeeeee!

For many, many years it was swill to me, but as with many things in my life, that too has changed.

~info dump of the small variety~ I grew up in a family where coffee was king. Most of you probably know what I mean, picture a day of meals with grandma and grandpa. Pancakes, bacon and eggs for breakfast. What to drink? Coffee. Lunch... soup and sandwich, drink - Coffee. Dinner... Roast, potato's, veggie and a good bread, hey don't forget the applesauce and Coffee. Shall we have desert? Cookies and COFFEE!
~dump over, ;)~

Yes, coffee was king, but I was the court jester. Why? Because I hated the stuff.

One taste of that nasty, bitter brew would burn my tongue and turn my stomach, though the smell was always pleasant.

Somewhere along the line, my tastes changed however and now the coffee(bleck) has changed to cofffeeee(more baby) Is it age? or maybe it's the sweet goodness of the milk and sugar substitute I put in it, or even the rush it gives me once consumed...yeah, it's probably the last one. LOL

That rush has helped me out many a day, for sure. I've used it to get more writing done, get some cleaning done, even sparked a desire in me to dance around the living room when I really should be working, but that's okay, I'll call it exercise.

As I finish this cup of coffee, I'm starting to wonder, do my shapeshifters drink coffee? I mean, the question has really never come up in our interviews. I'm sure the human in them may or may not like coffee, but how would it effect the animal?

Hmmm, I might have to follow that train of thought in an upcoming story, coffee - aphrodisiac in a shifting world? Maybe. :)

How about you out there? Yay or nay on coffee and does it cause any surprises in your shifters?

In London Werewolf the wolves drink beef broth, which has the same effect on them that coffee has on humans. They also drink decaf tea. You really don't want a heavily-caffeinated wolf running loose in your neighborhood.

Hey Pat,
A little beef broth in the morning to start the day off right. That sounds perfect for a wolf! hmmm a heavily caffeinated wolf...yeah, there's some damage waiting to happen. ;)

Is it just me, or does that coffee look like a lion's face?

Okay, coffee wasn't a huge thing in my growing-up household, except my Dad did drink it. We weren't an iced tea or tea household, either. Not pop... my parents were pretty smart about a lot of things.

I always love the brewing smell of coffee, not because it was in our house. I smelled it other places. But, the straight up taste, yuck!!! Until I tasted what was called Peruvian coffee, a distilled method of preparing it, that takes out the bitterness. It is damn good.

Though, I haven't had it in decades. Chocolate and cream and coffee... that's my thing, but not on a regular basis. Coffee works for my spring allergies, so it's a must in my hot chocolate, at times, about a quarter of teaspoon of instant.
Coffee actually has some very good medicinal substances... not just the caffeine.

I recently discovered an organic coffee powder that has the medicinal mushrooms in it... delish!!!

Oh, I meant to add... an overly caffeinated wolf... never a good thing... unless he or she is facing impossible battle odds.

So far, my shifters haven't indulged in the brew, but I bet some of them will in the future.

On a professional, I've studied lots of stuff about keeping your health... please, please!!! never use a sugar substitute... please!!!
White sugar is better for you. And now there are lots of great, very healthy sweeteners like Stevia, which is good for keeping blood sugar balanced. There's honey. I use it all the time. There's Aguave...delicious, too! There are natural unprocessed cane sugars which have the good minerals in them, which work great in coffee or hot chocolate, as well.

I love my coffee and always have but I have to wonder if that didn't start with the ritual of having a cup (mostly milk and sugar) in the mornings with my great-grandmother (she lived next door with my grandma). I've always loved the smell of fresh brewed coffee and I'm a half hot milk half coffee drinker, no sugar these days.

My shifters are so hyper now if I gave them coffee I don't think I could type fast enough! But the perfect break-time for me is a cup of coffee and a piece of chocolate...definitely not kitty fare;-)

Yep, Savanna, it looks like a lions face, or maybe a bear. :)

Peruvian coffee sound delish, I'm going to have to look into that, I wonder if I can get it at my local coffee house?

Yeah, I've heard the horrors of sugar substitutes as well, but the big D keeps regular sugar out of my diet. Now Stevia, I'll have to check that out if it helps to keep a balanced blood sugar.:) Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow Paris, how cool to have coffee time with a great grandma. Definitely a memory to hold on to.

Yum, coffee and chocolate, always a good combo. :)

Stevia is used by those with blood sugar issues. It has many really good nutrients in it and it has the mineral, chromium, in it, which helps regulate blood sugar.
However, only get a good brand at a health food store because there a companies who have jumped on the bandwagon with inferior products.

No coffee for me, can't stand the stuff. No coffee for my heroes because it makes for bad breath. Vampires don't need it, because being undead you aren't affected by caffeine. And my non-vampire heroes? Manly enough to say they prefer tea, thank you very much. :)

But I have to ask, where did you find that picture? I might buy a coffee just to see some talented barista make a lion face out of the foam. That is way cool!

lol...nothing unmanly about tea, that's for sure. You know Bond, James Bond had to have sipped of the brew. ;)

I found the pic on photobucket, but yeah, how cool would it be to get a coffee with an awesome design on the top!
