Welcome To Talbot's Peak's Turkey Fall Festival

“I’m a moose!” Trina Wilderson ran toward one of her new friends, the Adams twins, her hand stretched out trying to tag one of them. Her other hand held down the hat threatening to fall off her head.

Bartson Wilderson wanted to grab the stuffed antler hat off his daughter Trina’s head and clap a hand over her mouth. Her rising voice level wasn’t helping his growing headache. The twins screeching with her added decibels that would set a dog pack to howling. The three girls kept running in circles trying to tag the other as they waited with their parents for the carousel to stop. They headed up the next group to enter the ride.

Jason Adams wanted to grab the father of his twin daughters’ newest friend and shake him. Jason had promised his wife, he’d keep his animal leashed and controlled for the evening. Damn, couldn’t she read the human as easily as he could? What had she said after meeting Trina’s mother? Oh, yes. . .the poor woman needed friends and wanted to understand who the new comers were. Offering her a job at the diner would assist with keeping an eye on the humans around town. Hell, keeping Sherre Kahn under observation was not easy. Tomas’s request for backups had pulled in a few long overdue favors. Keeping family and children safe were utmost in importance.

The tall leggy brunette mother of the twins---well she had a set of legs that would quit. Give him a stepladder and a pogo stick and he’d---Keep your mind off my wife.

Bartson spun around and almost collided with the twins’ father. His muscles bulged and flexed with every breath he took. Had the man snarled at him? And the brunette? Bartson bet her eyes glowed golden green like cat eyes each time the carousel’s bright lights hit her eyes. Shit, were the rumors true about his new neighbors? Shape shifters from? Who the hell knew from where?

Bartson smiled and waved before turning back toward his wife. Trying to keep a straight face, he stepped toward the line forming near the carousel. Trina stood whispering in the ear of the twin girl closest to her. Seeing identical hats on the twin’s head, Bartson rubbed his hand up and down his pant leg. The vivid image of a large frothing at the mouth Doberman chasing him flashed through his mind

Look dude your mind isn’t gonna figure it out so give up or keep watching over your shoulder in your dreams.

“Jason,” his wife hissed in a low pitch snarl. “Remember we’re undercover.”

Jason nodded, wishing he could scare the prejudice bastard Bartson into shitting his pants. Drawing attention to his family wouldn’t help. Bartson’s wife and child deserved better treatment than their prejudice head of household offered them.

Bartson knew sticking with his kind made sense. True his disassociated fractured family tried to claim blue blood ties that even his great aunt the family genealogist shook her head over. If he added in his closest blood relatives. . .well he was sure they’d win a blue ribbon for dysfunctional family of the year. But mixing with half-bloods now that really rubbed his purity ethics in another direction.

Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds ~ Magick: Call Forth the Thunderbeat

With the powerful forces of Halloween rising, I thought I’d share a snippet-excerpt of Kandace, my heroine, as she casts forth her magick to defeat her enemies -- thirteen evil sorceresses from another world.
~~~~~~
Chapter Twenty-Seven:
Call Forth the Thunderbeat
Kandace closed her eyes, seeking the exact words to cast her spell of destruction. Mother, I need you.
Torrents of starry energy traveled through her, as if her very blood had been transmuted. Raising their hands high, Kandace waited until the words formed before her mind’s eye.
Shrieks of triumph sliced the air toward Kandace. “Daughter of Affrony, as our slave, you will behave. The black power of our will conquers your pitiful—”
Simultaneously, Zin and Zol’s force spewed inside her as if a giant volcano erupted. Kandace floated, her force barely contained by her flesh. When her feet dangled above the loft floor, the sorceress’s chant stopped.
“Quevj.” Kandace heard her voice boom. “I call upon the four sacred winds.
“The East Wind of the Beginning.
“The South Wind of the Sowing.
“The West Wind of the Completion.
“The North Wind of the Restoration.
“Your evil is swept from this world forever.
“By the power of Good, you return never.”
Blasts of wind buffeted Kandace as the sorceresses screamed a cacophony of curses. Keeping her eyes closed, Kandace focused, then chanted, “Quevj, I call upon the precious waters.
Blurb ~
Kandace doesn’t know why she’s a real witch. Despite her powers, she can’t find her bio parents. When the Tuxedo Twins tempt her with knowledge about her heritage at a charity event, Kandace agrees to dance with the mysterious Supernaturals. Unexpectedly, they are threatened by the omnipresent evil she’s been warned about in her dreams. To keep from being enslaved, Kandace brings forth her greater magick. But, to save her homeworld, she needs her hellhounds.
Zolivar and Zindale, two of Hades’ most mission-accomplished Hellhounds, see a witch sliding down the bannister after her heist of a painting. Spellbound, they know they’ve found just the right Kandy Apple to lick for Halloween. With every passion, Zin and Zol woo their chosen witch. Yet, will their Triad mate stay once she learns they can’t fall in love like humans? Or, will she return to her homeworld? Their very lives are at stake.
Six Sentence Sunday ~ Spooky little girl like you
From my latest release ~ KANDY APPLE AND HER HELLHOUNDS
This 'six' is from the scene where Kandace meets Zol and Zin
“I think I’d rather get to know a spooky little girl like you.”
Kandace jumped inside, startled by his bold come-on. “Spooky. Isn’t that a song lyric?” From the corner of her eye, she watched the other twin join them. Uh-oh, she’d just become the filling for a man sandwich. At least, they appeared to be men, given those high-rise bulges they both sported.
Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds ~ In Print for Halloween ~
It is the season of the witch, the season for my shapeshifting hellhounds, Zin and Zol.
Halloween is already reaching out with foggy entrapping tendrils. Yes, I can feel it, which is one reason I wrote my witch erotic romance, Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds, and currently have several Samhain-inspired WIPs.
My love affair with witches began with Samantha from the original TV series, Bewitched. Oh yes, I coveted her powers. After all, what fun-excitement that would be! A snap of your fingers and your room is clean, the chores done. A twitch of your nose and there’s the dress of your dreams.
You could right every wrong. Help others. Oh, the power was a heady fantasy.
However, more than her witchly magick, I simply adored who the character, Samantha, was as a woman -- the exception being whenever she cowtowed to her husband, typical for that time period.
And, yes, I even learned how to twitch my nose. Of course, not nearly as wonderfully as the actress, Elizabeth Montgomery, who played the beautiful real witch.
To be honest, despite all the Halloween ad hype I grew up with as a kid in the fifties -- where witches were portrayed as ugly evil creatures, often covered by warts because they handled frogs -- ya know what, I never bought into that view of witches.
I thought it was kinda ridiculous. Silly, even boring. No, some part of me never did believe or get onboard with that horror-spooky, broomstick ride. The only witch who ever spooked me as a kid was the Wicked Witch of the West in the “Wizard of Oz”.
Once the ‘beautiful witch’ arrived on the cultural scene... then when I learned about witches as women of the craft -- women who performed magickal rituals in accordance with nature to bring about a desired result -- well, I tingled. I resonated. And, I knew.
In that deep still part of me I knew, and that’s what rang true.
So, of course, it became irresistible -- the urge to write my own real witch heroine, my Kandy Apple. Yes, that’s her nickname, especially around Halloween. She adores wearing red, and has a riotous mane of red hair.
~~~

Here’s the scene where Kandace meets the Hellhounds, Zin and Zol.

Excerpt ~

Determined to ignore the heebie-jeebies, she gave her hair a toss. Kandace knew they weren’t fully human. What they were, she hadn’t discovered, so far. She stayed out of their social orbit and kept her distance.

Oh, she’d made discreet inquiries, all right. However, whoever she gabbed with would end up smirking, then give her that knowing look. Yeah, right, she wanted to jump the twins’ Remington Steele-elegant bones.

Okay, true, the old TV show, starring Pierce Brosnan, remained one of her guilty pleasures. Kandace dipped her tongue tip in her drink, scooping out a taste. Maybe if she knew what freakin’ dimension, planet, whatever, the Alien Tuxedo Twins hailed from she’d be interested in one of them. Maybe.

The only reason she inquired about the women in their lives was so she could politely interrogate them. However, Zol and Zin, as they were known, had been exceptionally discreet in their conquests. It’d been like pulling hen’s teeth with slick pliers—still, Kandace had gathered five names.

She’d made it a priority to speak with those women. Not one of them revealed anything of any consequence, and the dreamy smiles on their faces had quickly become too annoying. Even when she’d performed a gentle exploration of the women’s minds—nothing, except the sound of satisfied moans. Whoever the two peas in a pod were, they had the ability to keep an individual’s memory shielded, or some power she didn’t comprehend.

As Kandace admitted to whoever asked, she considered Zol and Zin to be living works of art. Whenever she caught sight of them at various artists’ events, a swoony thrill always raced her heart. Yep, fantastic to look at and admire, but that’s all.

Now, though, she had a whole new problem, other than keeping herself safe from the roaming security teams. The Alien Tuxedo Twins had been able to see her, despite her invisibility shield.

True, they didn’t seem overly eager to make her aware they knew about her witchy ability. Still, who the hell were they? What were they?

And did she need to be afraid of them?

To that end, Kandace sauntered ever closer.

“Might as well face the bad guys, if they are, and get it over with.” She whispered the words against the rim of her glass. Taking a sip, Kandace decided against an exploratory thought-form.

If they could see past her magic, they could probably stop her psi search of their minds, and would know she was onto their paranormal abilities.

Kandace strolled before some artist’s attempt to fuse Picasso’s style with the voluptuous fantasy art of Boris Vallejo. Blinking several times, she stared at the horror of high strangeness.

The twin wearing the evening suit sidled next to her as if he merely examined the painting.
“Definitely not my cup of artistic tea,” she commented. “What do you think?”

“I think I’d rather get to know a spooky little girl like you.”

Kandace jumped inside, startled by his bold come-on. “Spooky. Isn’t that a song lyric?”
From the corner of her eye, she watched the other twin join them. Uh-oh, she’d just become the filling for a man sandwich. At least, they appeared to be men, given those high-rise bulges they both sported.

For her?

Certainly, they smelled like real men. Despite the expensive cologne that clung subtly to both of them, their virility slammed into her nostrils and reminded her a bit of her uncle’s Rottweiler dogs.

Damn! No wonder some women fell in a drooling heap at their well-shod feet.

Kandace tipped up a large swallow of her drink. Her throat had suddenly become a desert, and her traitorous hormones began to beg.

Okay, she was a witch. She could handle this. Whatever this exactly was.

“Yes, it is a song lyric. Shall I sing the tune for you?”

Mr. Evening Suit asked in the smoothest yet sexiest voice she’d heard since Cary Grant. Kandace knew because her sister had watched all of the suave actor’s movies during her girlhood crush on him.

Intrigued by what he would actually do, Kandace flirtatiously angled her shoulders toward him. “Please.”

“In the cool of the evening,” he crooned, “when everything is getting kind of groovy, I call you up and ask you if you want to go and see a movie.”

Geez and tease her, Mr. Evening Suit’s sun-bronzed features were classically handsome, even more so, up this close and personal. Kandace avoided looking at his slightly wavy dark hair, perfectly groomed, of course. She had a thing when it came to a man’s hair. She wanted to wildly run her fingers through and not stop.

“First you say no,” the other twin sang, smooth as velvet, “you've got some plans for the night, and then you stop, and say, all right.”

Kandace did make a tactical error, though. She met his gaze, instantly losing herself in his coffee-colored eyes, illumined by flame. So it appeared.

“Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you,” they sang in stereo.

Feeling halfway seduced, Kandace saluted with her glass. “That’s good. But a girl can only take so much from a pair of womanizers like you.”

“Womanizer?” the Tuxedo Twin inquired. “Do you mean as in a libertine or wolf?”

“Exactly. Quaint reference, libertine. You two aren’t time travelers, are you?” Kandace hoped her voice sounded lighthearted, joking. It was hard to tell, given their mighty testosterone effect on her.

For a brief moment, they glanced at each other, easy to do since they towered above her. Tiny golden vibrations emanated from their foreheads and Kandace wondered exactly how telepathic they were.

“We’re not time travelers by common definition,” the evening suit twin answered.

“But, you do travel through time,” Kandace persisted. Why not? If they knew about her, why shouldn’t she know about them?

She took a nervous sip, but hardly tasted her drink.

Again, the twins trained their gazes on each other for a bare instant.

“We have. However, not by our own power, little witch.” Mr. Tuxedo’s sexy croon had her shifting toward him.

“Witch. You say that as if you believe I am an actual witch.”

Probably not smart, calling them out so soon, especially when I’m sandwiched between them. And just how did they time travel? Kandace frowned mentally.

“You are.” They spoke as one, freaking her out and tingling her spine. It felt like a tray of ice cubes slid down it.

“Red as sin and cherries, brother.”

“More,” she whispered.

Finally... Release the Hellhounds!

Howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers. Today is the magickal day. KANDY APPLE AND HER HELLHOUNDS is available at Siren-BookStrand.

Since there’s already a Sexcerpt posted on the buy page, I thought I’d share a portion of two scenes where Zol and Zin are hellhounds on a mission.

~~~
Excerpt ~
Minutes later, Zol pulled into the darkened parking lot of an empty building. Blanking the camera screen, he hid the Twilight Mirage behind the fence-enclosed trash container.
He and Zin rapidly exited and disrobed. At the same time, they observed their prey as if he starred in a holo program.
Attired in a skeleton Halloween costume overlaid with biker regalia, the wiry-built man stealthily slipped out the back door of Porky’s Pub. Similar to a humanoid weasel, he moved behind one of the few cars, then positioned himself to attack.
Sent by a secret subgroup of the Council on Foreign Relations, the dark-side agent waited for the leader of the pack, Wolf Fang. A giant barrel of a man, he led one of the largest biker gangs on the West Coast. Several times he and his gang had destroyed the supply lines used to smuggle heroin over the Mexican border by the CFR’s operatives.
For centuries, drug money had provided the bankster-gangster globalists, controllers of the CFR, with the financial power to gain and keep world dominion. Wolf Fang had taken a bite out of their drug-running empire. He was a marked man in two ways. One would cost him his life, the other his reputation.
Not strictly human, the CFR agent was known as a chameleon blood drinker. One taste of his victim’s blood, and he could transform into an exact physical copy.
The evil catch was he also retained certain abilities, one of them being mind control. With the charismatic hypnotism made infamous by Charles Manson, the chameleon agent planned to turn Wolf Fang’s gang into Nazi skinheads, using them to wreak bloodthirsty havoc on the border.
Once they stood side-by-side, Zol merged completely with Zin. Locking their supernatural gazes on their target, they launched forward, phasing to hellhounds.
As they raced in perfect tandem over the adjoining parking lot, their internal flames roared and scorched their hides to invincible. Beneath their fiery paws, the asphalt melted into gooey tar until they skimmed at blur speed over the surface.
Raw volatile power poured through them as they sighted the chameleon agent. He crept along the side of the car. Rising beside the hood, he flailed his arms like a crazed skeleton, intent on gaining the attention of Wolf Fang and his pack as they departed Porky’s Pub.
“Oooh, watch out!” one of the gang mocked. “It’s the attack of Skeleton Biker Dude.”
Several of the pack members hooted with laughter. All of them flashed knives, except Wolf Fang. Halting, he stood his ground and gestured for them to wait behind him.
“Ain’t you that little coward that tried to take a peek at my dick when I was honoring the porcelain?” Wolf Fang eyed the CFR agent as if he planned on tearing him limb from limb. “I smashed your ugly pie hole with the stall door.”
Moving like a zombie controlled by a demented master, the agent gradually walked in the direction of the Hercules-muscled leader.
“I don’t give a stinky crap how pickled your gray matter is,” Wolf Fang snarled. “My fist is waiting to make mush out of that prick face of yours.”
Hellbeasts on a mission, Zol and Zin spiked their flames along the ridge of their backs and sprang high. Blazing their eyes to the red brilliance of Vulcan’s forge whenever he created weapons of power, they soared in a straight path toward Wolf Fang.
He froze in his tracks, his terror bulging his eyes to the size of ping pong balls.
~~~~~~

Excerpt Setup: This is the first time Kandy has seen Zin and Zol as hellhounds.

...With her being saturated by the vibration of her hellhounds, Kandace mentally asked about their current location as if they conversed. Quicker than she could think, she zipped somewhere, as if she belly-surfaced atop a high velocity wind.

Halting rapidly, she took a moment to rally her magickal forces. Kandace realized she hovered above the ground and mind-gazed downward.

Spotlighted by the parking lot’s pole light, Harley motorcycles gleamed. Staring at several rows of the mechanical horses waiting obediently for their riders, she saw them. Hellhounds.

Goddess!

Two black brute beasts she could never have conjured up in her imagination launched forward. So perfectly did they mirror each other, they appeared to be one demonic canine monster. Dragon-like scales blazed along their backs.

Seeing their four neon red eyes sent a shockwave through her system. Their eyes were as enormous as headlights on a car, and Kandace swore she witnessed the eternal fires of damnation rage in their depths.

Too staggered to shiver, her gaze shot toward whoever they soared through the air to attack. Believing it to be the bear-colossal biker with his ruthless looking gang, she mentally jerked back as they landed on the smallish man who had been approaching the bikers with a slow stilted gait.

Paralyzed with fear, no one in the big tough biker gang moved. Kandace understood. Immobile herself, her etheric heart in her throat, she watched the hellbeasts separate from each other.

Resembling a cross between hunks of fiery lava and gargantuan Rottweiler dogs, they took turns grabbing, then shaking their prey mercilessly. In a futile attempt to escape, he flailed like an animated mannequin.

Six, Six... but not 666...

My heroes, Zol and Zin, are fiery, deadly beasts from the Underworld. Hellhounds. However, while they are shifted into their human form, they prefer to be gentleman in the style of Cary Grant and Remington Steele ~ the character played by Pierce Brosnan. Kandy, their witch heroine, is fond of calling them her gentlemen hellbeasts.
~~~
Here’s the first SIX sentences from the first SIX chapters ~
Chapter One:
Zolivar and Zindale
August 14, 2009
“Ready to unleash your inner being?” Zol asked his twin. Utterly naked, he pulled off his gold and onyx signet ring, twirled it once on his finger, then slid it inside his tuxedo pants pocket.
Zin stripped off his dress pants and tossed them inside their black sports car, affectionately known as the Twilight Mirage. He shut the door with a neat twist of his wrist. “I’m releasing my inner beast,” he returned with dry amusement.
Standing side by side, they traveled their supernatural gazes over the Mojave Desert’s moonlit landscape.
~~~

Chapter Two:
Kandace Sylvia Winter

October 30, 2009

Kandace halted part way up the long curving staircase. “Lightball,” she whispered. Instantly, the luminous blue sphere she’d imaged before her third eye appeared.

Floating ahead of her, the blue ball guided her steps as she mounted the stairs. Kandace hoped her lightball wasn’t noticed by anyone attending the high society charity event, since it provided enough illumination for the darkened upper level.

Kandace sensed the man standing on the top landing of the stairway before she saw him.
~~~
Chapter Three:
Ménage à Trois Red
Zin watched the witch slide down the grand staircase’s banister.
“Look at that,” he uttered, his gaze riveted by her perky peach-shaped ass. Covered only by the black silky material of her pantyhose, it was a temptation beyond compare.
“An arousing sight, indeed, as proven by the tight fit of my pants.” Zol particularly appreciated the small witch’s legs as she athletically flung them, maneuvering off the banister. “Gorgeous gams, slim and curvaceous.”
~~~

Chapter Four:
Alien Tuxedo Twins

Kandace sipped on her ice-whipped drink. Flavored with apple liqueur and apple cider, it was her own recipe for a Candy Apple. Not only did she relish the taste, the color matched her dress.

Besides, she definitely needed the alcohol for her frayed nerves. Not because of her theft, no -- the Alien Tuxedo Twins, as she thought of them, had her spooked but good. Shivers cascaded through her as she glanced their way.
~~~
Chapter Five:
Where is this Enduoir Prime?
“It will be my distinct pleasure.”
Zol couldn’t recall ever desiring the touch of a woman’s hand more, certainly not with this savage intensity. Speculation, wariness glinted within her bewitching indigo eyes, more appropriately described as shimmering orbs of cobalt blue and purple.
She approached him like a slow-motion scene, and when her hand alighted on his, Zol softly winged inside.
“If you don’t tell me, remember, I am wearing spiked heels.” She scowled formidably.
~~~

Chapter Six:
Spellbound Hounds

Zin tasted the candy apple drink he’d purchased for himself out of rabid curiosity. Waiting on the edge of the ballroom floor, he watched his twin masterfully handle their lovely Kandy Apple. As the two of them spoke about her heritage, Zol enticed her closer.

So far, his brother mind-sent the words between him and the gorgeous witch.

As he drank, the icy apple-tart concoction interested Zin’s taste buds. Though, given the torrid state of his loins, he fantasized about pouring it on his nether column, then feeling the little laps of her tongue.

Sexcitations, Good, Good Vibrations

Springtime howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

Thank you, to everyone who participated in the Luck of the Irish Blog Hop.

Almost good news!!! Okay my writerly eyes are bleary, and threatening to spin like pinwheels in a gusting wind... my head is throbbing... but! The final chapter of Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds is finished and close to being revised. That means, a final read through and revision... and it’s SUBMISSION time!

Howlelujah...

So, what you’ll be getting today, since I’ve been working feverishly all day and night... is a rough, unedited short excerpt from Chapter Fifty-Five ~ Sexcitations, Good, Good Vibrations.

Light of foot, she ran toward them. Thinking Zin and Zol should be able to see her by now, Kandace waved.

No response. Her hellhounds patiently waited for her. A match for each other, they stood with their hands dashingly placed inside their tux jacket pockets.

Behind them, a long slit formed in the dimensional bubble. Kandace watched as someone’s shoulder slid through.

“Zol, Zin, watch out!”

She screamed another warning, her heart threatening to pound out of her chest.

Her power surged, sparking like fireworks. Relieved beyond belief, Kandace raised her arm, and aimed preparing to blast the intruder.

Zin and Zol spun, halting her use of magick. With elegant execution, they handily dropped Major Odarran to his knees.

Busting through in pairs, the DOD team attacked, their guns firing laser pulses. Zol and Zin took them on, moving like James Bond in a fast-forwarded movie.

In a series of coordinated martial arts moves, her hellhounds dispatched their foes. Kandace watched their life force mist away. Oddly, their bodies became cubes, then vanished.

Ultra smooth, Zin flipped the mini weapon Vresc had retrieved out of his pocket. He pointed it dead center at Major Stiles’ forehead.

“Mind activated, I believe,” he snarled.

With no hesitation, the Major backed away. Behind him, the conjured bubble dissolved.

Surging forward, Linda screeched. The enraged sound had Zol baring his teeth.

In a split second, he glowed like a fiery lava, and Kandace witnessed a demonic red fog form around her hellhounds.

Zol growled as the DOD handler drew a Star Trek looking Phaser. A split second later, a lick of flame, similar to a dragon, stopped just short of Linda’s face.

At the same moment, Kandace’s guardian leaped toward her. Wings outstretched, he protectively stood before her, hissing.

Kandace lowered her hand slightly, glad she’d been able to control her magick, just in case Zin or Zol had gotten in the way.

In slow retreat, Linda moved backward. “Hellhounds,” she sneered like a curse.

“And the day keeps on remindin' me, there's a hellhound on my trail. Hellhound on my trail, hellhound on my trail,” Zin and Zol sang as a duo.

Hearing Robert Johnson’s iconic blues lyrics sung in a Cary Grant croon, nearly had Kandace laughing. If she hadn’t been intent on keeping her witchy powers strong, she would have cracked up.

Going into the darkness...

Pic from ~ 123nonstop.com ~

Mist-howling hello, shapeshifter lovers... ghosts, ghouls and goblins... don’t forget ALL the creatures of the night. They certainly won’t forget you during this time of the year... when portals open and the veil parts... when the Earth becomes their trick-or-treat playground... or as some would have you believe... their feeding ground.

Admittedly spooky tales were never my thing growing up, even though I’ve always felt a calling for all things *living* in the paranormal realm. One terribly nasty nightmare was enough for me after watching the Twilight Zone as a kid. Besides, I’ve always been squeamish around blood.

So, it’s somewhat of a surprise to me, how much I’ve embraced the shadow these past several years. As an author I’ve entered the creepy deep shadows of Halloween more and more. One reason is because Werewolves, Vampires and other Beasties have entered romance-landia as alpha heroes and as powerful heroines.

Another reason is because I feel and sense the subtle energies of Samhain as I never have before. This is happening for many of us as we move further into the Age of Aquarius. IMO, this brings about a ‘soul need’, a ‘deep yearning’ for all the paranormal romance subgenres ~ with more to arrive hydra-style.

Often, *those* supposedly in the know, within the romance novel industry, predict the end of the paranormal genres, the end of the things-that-go-bump-in-the-night trend. They say that it’s back to contemporary romance ‘without’ all the woo-woo elements.

Maybe so. But, I haven’t seen evidence of it. That’s not to say there aren’t a lot of readers who prefer those romances, but there’s sure a heck of a lot who want ‘paranormals’. From what I’m observing currently, as far as comments from readers, they want their sexy alpha Werewolves and their hot seductive Vampires. And every spin-off breed of human/creature the imagination can conjure and create as romantic, passionate and/or erotic.

This is a good thing for me. As a writer I’ve been *going into the darkness* this past week. Into the darkness and isolation of my writing cave and into the Halloween magickal darkness of my current WIP.

Yep, happily and ‘knock on wood’ my penning will continue on a relatively smooth track, since my witchy erotic romance, Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds, has reached a crescendo. With her most dangerous enemies defeated and now claimed by the Underworld, my heroine is about to be faced with a heart-wrenching choice. But then, the fate of Earth depends on it. Hey, no surprise, as Buffy, the vampire slayer knows, evil has been a relentless force.

To get you in even more of a Halloween mood and because I adore my black cat girl, Sable Kiki, here’s a bad-witch excerpt from Halloween erotic romance, BLACK CAT BEAUTY.

Warning ~ x-rated language

...the woman suddenly appeared, stepping in front of her.

Halting instead of gliding around the woman, Sable ran her gaze up from the stiletto black heels she wore, to the woman’s gaunt face, decorated like an Egyptian cat statue. Unblinking eyes that reminded her of dirty pool water analyzed her face.

“What black arts’ technique did you use?” The woman’s tone spiraled around her, cast from a cauldron spell.

“And why would I share anything with you?” Sable didn’t bother disguising her utter disregard. When she moved to walk away, the woman stepped in front of her again.

“He’s mine.” The sinister woman’s voice coiled like a serpent in Sable’s belly.

Placing her fist on one hip, she faced the woman fully. “Is that so?” Sable seized the attacking energy, then twined it around the woman’s throat.

Sinister woman blanched for a moment, her eyes dilating mummy-style before she dispelled the energy, and scowled ruthlessly at Sable.

“I knew it.” She growled, her voice like an inner-world gargoyle.

“Knew what?” Sable envisioned batting her head around like a play toy, but didn’t throw the energy at her.

Narrowing her eyes, then pointing a bony finger with a dagger nail that could slice open many a sardine can, sinister woman intoned, “I’m not done, if you’re smart you’ll get out of my way. Everyone gets out of my way...eventually.”

Sable idly slid her gaze over the woman’s scarecrow features, her enraged glints for eyes. “If Devon was interested in fucking a woman with a body designed by Skeletor, I would be more than thrilled to send you in his direction.” Casually, she regarded her own nails, popping out one claw. “As it is, I would advise you to express your sorcery talents elsewhere.”

“Everyone in Hollywood bows before me. I’ve ruined countless careers, and decreed countless others into existence. You’re no match for my sorcery talents, you fat ugly toad.” A sparking black cloud emanated from the center of sinister woman’s forehead.

Creating a gale-force wind in her third eye, Sable blew it, dissipating the nasty soupy stuff before it could cause a second’s harm. “Since I have no wish for a career in Hollywood, your dire threat is just so much jibber jabber to my ears.” Sable remembered not to flick her ear. Or her tail in haughty satisfaction.

“Do you think your amateurish use of magick can stop me from getting what I want? I can enslave you to my will as easily as crooking my little finger.” Demonstrating, sinister woman thrust her Grim Reaper hand in front of Sable’s eyes.

“A big ole’ oops, witchie poo, but you’re too late.” Sable languidly tossed her waves of hair. “I’ve already been enslaved. Any advise for removing this collar?”

For an instant, mean ole’ witchie poo gleamed her gaze directly on the collar, then stared at the matching bracelet.

“Want to give it a magickal try?” Sable held up her wrist twisting it in front of the woman’s eyes. To further taunt sinister woman, she glittered the bracelet in the spooky illumination of the neon disco lights. “Maybe a tiny bolt of lightning. Want to try?”

Silent long enough for Sable to hear the lyrics ‘love to love you, baby’ of the sensual disco chant behind her, witchie poo finally looked up from the bracelet. “You’ll regret angering me, you cunt stupid bitch,” she snarled, her eyes gleaming greenish streaks of demonic hatred.

Sable smiled widely, her most I’m-going-to-make-you-prey grin. “Spells at dawn? Since I’m the challenger you can choose your favorite weapon from your black arts’ bag of tricks.”

Before You Can Say BOO

Shapeshifter lovers, greetings. Right now, my batteries are running low and I’m looking to spend what energy I have on the WIPs I’m writing and preparing for publication. Plus, with edits on my short story, THE TIGER’S MASQUERADE, arriving soon, I want to get as much penning done as possible.

One thing I’ve almost decided on ~ I’ll likely change the title of ~Kandy Apple for Halloween~ to ~Kandy Apple and Her Hellhounds~

Here’s the working blurb: What happens when two of Hades’ most mission-accomplished Hellhounds find just the right witch for Halloween?

This title change will take the story beyond being a Halloween-themed erotic romance. While the plot does revolve around the powerful energies of Samhain and the thinning of the veil, the story is not really just a spooky Halloween HEA tale. Not by a long shot. Or, not by a bewitched-twitch of my witch’s little nose – she’s a petite thing.

Here’s the last UNEDITED paragraphs of Chapter Twenty-Five ~

Diving outward, Zol flew soaring opposite Zin. Fast as wind-fanned flames, they curved their triad of power around the thirteen sorceresses. In the same instants, Kandace streaked upward arcing their combined force above the circle.

Believing victory was within their grasp, the sorceresses hissed with glee and rapid-fired their wands. Their strikes dissolved the purple smokescreen Kandace created as she whirled.

He and Zin absorbed the attack of dark-light pulses. Utilizing the energy as they did the combustible frequencies of Mother Earth, they moved into hyperspeed.

Yep, keep in step ~ Halloween is creeping up on us in that sneaky *crisper cooler Autumn way*. With the supersonic-jet speed of time these fleeting days, it will probably be here before you can say BOO!!!

The Kougar’s mews and news ~

Stacey Kennedy, paranormal romance author, will be our Guest Author this Thursday, the 9th, and will be giving us a preview of her upcoming release ~ AN EVERLASTING BITE. She’s a Canadian, so let’s give her a warm American welcome and hug.

I am also blogging today, over at THE PINK BLOG or the blog’s official name, LINDSAY’S ROMANTICS ~
The past week’s theme has been Library Days. If you want to learn more about the wonders of libraries, walk down memory lane, or learn about the future of libraries, these blogs are worth their weight in gold. Yesterday, Romance author, LK Hunsaker, shared her trip to the Dublin library where The Book of the Kells is housed. And, yes, there are pictures.
My post is an ‘ancient library’ scene I just wrote, starring Trail and Seneca, my hero and heroine in STALLION OF ASH AND FLAME.

Witchy Powers ~ Fire at will, stun don’t kill.

Oh, yes, shapeshifter lovers, this blog is still for you. It’s just that my heroine, Kandace or Kandy Apple, as she’s known, is a bonafide witch and on her own in this scene from the latest chapter of my WIP.

You see, her hellhound shifter heroes, Zol and Zin, have captured and tormented a bad guy. Well, it’s crucial they deliver him directly to Hades. Nothing else will do for the sake of justice and the right flow of fate. So, for the time being Zin and Zol are stuck in the Underworld until Hades sends them to the surface.

Oh, they tried to stop her, their one witch, with a telepathic appeal. But could you wait if your sister’s life was on the line?

An *unedited* excerpt from my WIP ~ Kandy Apple for Halloween

All too aware of the Quevj’s trap, Kandace concentrated on summoning forth the power she’d been warned not to use, until this confrontation with her race’s enemy. The trick was to loose it at the right instant, and not let her force rise too swiftly.

“Knock, knock,” she called out, “I’m here. Do you want your painting?”

“You couldn’t have brought it here, bitch, as fast as you arrived,” Nigel nastily roared.

“No, but free my sister and I’ll tell you where it is.”

“No matter, alien witch, I’ll have my new friends do their brand of water boarding.”

“Gurgle, gurgle,” Kandace taunted. Kneeling, she touched her palm to the loft floor and suffused it with her force.

“Daughter of Affrony, your destiny awaits. Come forth. You belong to us.”

Not one centimeter of the warehouse had been left untouched by the ring of Over-Voice woman’s words.

Destiny, smestiny, all I want is my sister back.

Hearing the pound of boots at the far end of the loft where the elevator was located, Kandace rose upwards and opened her hand. “Fire at will, stun don’t kill.”

Spheres of blaze-yellow light the size of golf balls flew from her palm and swarmed like bees toward Nigel’s squad of goons.

“What the fuck!” was repeated several times, followed by the loud slumping thud of bodies.

Listening to Nigel shout orders, Kandace raised her arms in invitation to the Source of All. She clasped her hands shaping them into a wand’s point of contact, and whispered, “O fog of doom and gloom, your presence is sought, make this place a shrouded tomb, for those whose evil souls must be caught.”

Tendrils of mist swirled around her. Pale at first, it darkened and thickened in no time.

Clear as if she’d had her crystal ball, Kandace mind-watched the thirteen Quevj sorceresses attempt to counter her impromptu spell casting. To no avail.

The fog spread, sinuous as a clan of giant serpents. Covering everything, it rolled menacingly, a monstrous black specter from the bowels of hell.

Screams of horror ricocheted throughout the warehouse, as did the sound of racing, tromping feet. Those who could, escaped out the doors, deserting Nigel.

“Daughter of Affrony, if you wish the presence of your sister, you will come to us now, and surrender.”

Hellhounds Do Dance

Admittedly, my mind is in a muddle. It was a long draining day, yesterday, and, so far, inspiration for a bloggie has only arrived like the splattering raindrops of a storm that never actually develops, but merely threatens big things to come.

Okay, what about all of my shapeshifter WIPs? All of my notes on various shapeshifters populating Earth in legend and lore? What about my hellhounds, Zol and Zin, who star in Kandy Apple for Halloween?

Side note: those two heroes are cracking me up. Yes, I figured I’d attempt to finish their story for Halloween. Will it happen? I have no clue, given everything authorly coming down the pike and all of the unexpected interruptions of life. But, heck, I’m giving it the ole ra-ra college try.

Oh, why not? Here’s the section I worked on last ~

“We want to lick Kandy Apple for Halloween,” they rasped together.

Their voices were such polished restraint, Kandace didn’t spin around and leave. She didn’t gaze directly at them, either. We, they’d said we. Nope, she wasn’t going down that rabbit hole by asking what they meant.

Dammit, hole. Obviously, they both wanted her sex hole. No wonder those women had dreamy expressions. Two, two, at once. Oh, god, why was she remembering the stupid Doublemint twins? Okay, she had seen a YouTube vid of the old commercial recently because a friend had e-mailed it.

“No, you are not licking this Kandy Apple for Halloween. I’ll send you some real candy apples.”

Why were her feet super-glued to the floor? Hell, why did her skin burn with what could only be described as raunchy desire? Frakking-crap, why didn’t one of them say something before she crushed her glass? “I believe I’m in need of another drink.”

Zin gently relieved her of the glass. “I’ll be right back, Kandace.” Pivoting with languid grace, he moved away.

“We’ve frightened you. That wasn’t our intention.” Zol extended his hand in invitation. “Care to dance, Kandace? The music has begun.”

“If you tell me what you meant by Enduoir witch.”
~~~~~~
Yep, my Hellhound Heroes do dance with the sophisticated and debonair style of Cary Grant. They’re also slavering hellbeasts who punish evildoers and bring them to their master, Hades, for a tortuous stay in the Underworld.
