Good Friday morning to all you shapeshifter lovers out there. In the spirit of Crystal's awesome blog on Wednesday, I decided to ask a question that's been on my mind recently. Blogs - What do we like to see in them, what do we not like to see in them and free reads, good, bad or so-so?Okay, so that's more than one question - anyone with hot, sexy shapeshifting characters, feel free to send them over to spank me! ;)
So I thought I would start by sharing my preferences...
What do I like to see in a blog - Color, life and spunk.
What you need more? Alrighty...
Color - I like to see fun and colorful pictures, it draws me in. If the picture fascinates me, I'm going to read your blog.
Life - We all have them. Interesting things happen all the time, tell me about some of the things that happen to you. Or your reaction to something going on in the world. I'm interested.
Spunk - Have fun with it. Post something silly sometimes, tell me something that intrigues you or freaks you out. Tell me a joke or your favorite drink, shock me even. I'm up for it. :)
What don't I like to see in a blog?
Excessive ranting - Tell me if something makes you angry and I'll listen. Turn it into an every blog occurrence and I'm going to stay away more than I visit. I would guess a lot of people feel that way.
Free reads - I like them. It gives me a darn good idea if I want to buy that authors works. If it's a serial story, like our very own Savanna Kougar is oh so good at, I'll be back to the blog day after day to see what's happened in the free story land. If I come back for the story, I'm definitely going to read the rest of the blog...but hey, that's just me. :)

Great topic! I agree about the rants. If that's all your blog is about I have a tendency to avoid the negativity on a daily basis and would probably stop visiting.
Free reads? I understand that as a promotional tool these can be essential. The price is certainly right;-) for both the reader and the author! But these are not a component that draws me to a blog.
I enjoy thoughtful, provacative topics that ask a question, make me think about something affecting the world around me, whether it's writing or some current event. I enjoy it more if it's humorous;-)

Serena, I'm not certain exactly what draws me to a blog, other than what you've already talked about.
I do appreciate insightful blogs on writing topics. Such as you posted on our HAPPILY EVER AFTER blog.
I appreciate the unusual, something unique to the blogger or what the experience they are blogging about. Not that I achieve that daily on my personal blog ~ I'm sure I don't. Sometimes, it turns out to be more of a journaling effort, I think.

Ooh, yes, insightful thoughts are another good quality for blogs. I do like to learn something from what I'm reading as well. :) I'm so glad you enjoyed mine on the HEA blog.
