Favorite Halloween Movies

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays, the one time I break down and allow myself a scary movie.

I’m a chicken at heart, and even the PG rated movies have been know to send me to the edge of my seat, fingers woven together in front of my eyes to afford only the tiniest peep holes. When I was a child, I tried to rationalize with myself as I lay trembling in bed, unable to sleep for fear of closing my eyes. You weren’t afraid of Michael Meyer last night... I could not convince myself. For years I slept on my back with my head turned to the left because I was afraid to turn my back to the edge of the bed. I kid you not.

Even to this day I hate when my husband goes on a trip because I hate sleeping alone. One of the best things about being married is not having to sleep alone (for so many reasons- heh heh)

So Halloween has become the only time of year I allow myself a scary movie.  We’ve got a few days before we have to make our Netflix selection for our Halloween night’s entertainment, so I’m asking for suggestions. What’s your favorite Halloween movie? And don’t even bother telling me to rent Saw, or Hostel, or any other mutilator flicks because to me, those aren’t Halloween movies. One of my all time favorites is The Corpse Bride, but I just saw that on Sunday, so I need your suggestions.

I love the Underworld flicks with Kate Beckinsale and have the first two. It's vampires vs. werewolves and it is bloody but there's no "Saw" factor. I love the whole concept of the movie;-) and it's a dandy romance to boot!

Ooh, favorite scary movies. Well The Shining is my all time favorite scare movie. If you want the chase and scare type movie, Nightmare on Elm Street always did me in. Now comedy wise, I liked Beatlejuice...LOL

I love Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter -a campy Roman Polanski film from the late 60s or early 70s. And...Netflix has it! The movie was entertaining and a little creepy - but not on the order of Hellraiser or even Halloween.

I also like just about any Vincent Price film - but my favorite is Masque of the Red Death.

Oh, Beetlejuice was good!
I'm not the person to ask, however... if I want something creepy I go for an X-Files episode... like the one where a demon wants a normal family life as a husband and father.
That pumpkin is positively demonic looking... that would scare me!

Oh yeah, I loved Beetlejuice. But I've never seen Captain Kronos, and that sounds just perfect! Off to Netflix!

Army of Darkness. Bruce Campbell + chainsaw = dead zombies and laughs. From the people who brought you the Hercules and Xena TV shows. Hail to the King, baby!

I guess I do scary 'Lite'. Nothing I watch would give me nightmares, but they have a sufficient amount of creatures and evil to qualify them as horror flicks. I'm going to have a Halloween marathon weekend this year. My choices include:
House of Wax
House of Usher/The Pit and the Pendulum
House on Haunted Hill(Vincent Price's)
Halloween (The Original)
Dracula 2000 (Gerard Butler Mmmmm..)
Fright Night
The Hunger (Season 1)
American Gothic(Gary Cole does evil so well)
Wolf (Jack's perfect for this)
The Lost Boys
Sleepy Hollow
Underworld - Rise of the Lycans
I really hope to stay awake for all of these. I do have more if I mange to achieve it. Happy Halloween everyone!!

Oh yes, Army of Darkness is definitely another Crystal rated A-okay movie. I especially love the scene where the skeleton hooks him in the nostril with a bony finger.

I have to admit I haven't heard of Dracula 2000, but if it has Gerard Butler in it, it's going in my Netflix Queueuueueue

Crystal,
I saw the movie when it first came out and I was struck dumb by how sexy this unknown actor was. I knew though just like I knew about Viggo when I saw him for the first time in Prophecy, that great things would happen for Gerard. Glad to see I wan't mistaken. Prophecy is also a great movie for Halloween. If you haven't seen it, it stars Christopher Walken, Virginia Madsen, Amanda Plummer and Elias Koteas. Viggo, I believe, had done some acting at the time, but I think he was relatively unknown. Thank goodness that didn't last.
