The flurry of snowflakes Keina flew through...

March-mad howls and yowls, shapeshifter lovers.

Here's another sneak peek of an 'unedited' chapter from my SHAPESHIFTER SEDUCTIONS WIP,  starring my winged horse heroine, Keina, and her more-than-human hero, Drev. This is a transitional scene, but the Prince villain is hot-to-trot and hot on Keina's hooves.

Chapter Twenty

The flurry of snowflakes Keina flew through melted on impact with her invisibility shield. Concerned for Drev, that he'd trekked to Talbot's Peak safely with the turkeys for his family, she peeked inside his mind.

As images formed, Keina spread her wings wide, and floated downward. From the scene before her mind's eye, she figured Drev spoke with Stan the Van Man. The slender young man stood next to a large delivery vehicle. When the otter shapeshifter handed Drev a cell phone, Keina psi-knew he called his brother.

Sensing a good outcome, she focused on the rooftop of her apartment building. Covered in a deep blanket of snow, it had become unsuitable for landing. Keina snorted an inner sigh.

Any disturbance in the pristine whiteness would alert her enemies. She certainly didn't need a black-ops team sniffing for a trail. And, Epona forbid, she didn't want to confront the Prince and his cohorts.

Even with the dimensional boundary, Keina felt the raunchy stud chasing after her tail, so to neigh. Shaking off the disturbing sensation, she banked, then flapped above a long alleyway, which ended close to the apartment's back door.

Only the lovely silence of snow greeted Keina as she landed beside the trash bin. Mostly concealed, she swiftly opened one of her harness bags.

Keina tugged on her hiking boots, then wrapped herself in the long parka Drev had insisted she wear when they'd played in the snow. After brushing away her hoof prints with the sleeve, she shoved her flying harness into the bag, and hurried toward the back door.

Flubergastov, she hoped no one had bothered locking it.

Keina heaved a sigh of relief as she entered the unlit hallway. Pausing to let her eyes adjust, she listened for anyone who might be coming or going.

With no one about, she trotted up the rarely used stairway, and tried to avoid inhaling the musty air. Somehow, during their talks with each other, Drev had convinced her to move into the cabin, despite her determination not to endanger him.

Somehow...Keina silently horse-laughed at herself. Not just her heart, but every single particle of her yearned to be with Drev.

Although, she'd countered his stallion-dominant tactics, by saying she needed to fly back to her apartment, collect certain necessities. When he balked, digging his heels in, Keina explained she had to retrieve evidence that would out her as a shapeshifter to those who hunted her kind.

At the very least, it would raise suspicions about who she was, other than a single woman living in Billings, Montana. Also, if she didn't make an appearance, her friends would become concerned, and talk the manager into checking on her.

Like a protective stallion, Drev insisted she wait until he could accompany her. That had proven impossible.

Given their isolation on the mountain, the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, and the harsh wintry conditions, no transportation could be arranged.

Another complication, because she could be tracked, Keina never flew as horse with her cell phone. Turning it off hadn't worked, as she'd discovered after a harrowing chase. With a black helicopter on her tail, blowing her tail and mane, only her invisibility, her wits, and going inter-dimensional for moments, had saved her from capture.

Keina trembled inside at the memory.

Since Drev's phone hadn't functioned well enough to reach Billings, there'd been no way to contact her friends, or the manager -- let them know she was fine.

With her promise to be super careful, and knowing the extreme danger shapeshifters faced if discovered, Drev finally relented.

On sudden alert, Keina let herself inside the apartment. The Prince's obnoxious stench assailed her instantly.

She recoiled, her back hitting the shut door. Her hand gripped the doorknob as the instinct to turn tail and flee nearly overwhelmed her. Yet, at the same time, she psi-realized the vicious cad was long gone.

Dumping her bags and parka in front of the door, Keina rushed about her apartment. She had to find out if Tretorff had absconded with anything of importance to her. Simultaneously, she collected everything that could identify her as an other-realm shifter.

Like a manic mare protecting her herd, Keina ran back and forth, loading her flight bags. Given nothing of consequence was missing, she figured the vile horse's ass had collected hair from her brush. Likely with a triumphant snort, he'd presented the strands to the court mage, who had used her hair to locate her, then conjure-open the dimensional window in Drev's bedroom.

Pausing, Keina grabbed breaths and picked up her cell phone. She found her landlord's number, then activated it. As usual, she got his message service.

After telling him she would be spending the holidays with a friend, and not to worry, Keina placed her laptop and cell phone in a special case. Lined with silver, lead, and copper, it had been designed to keep e-devices from being traced and hacked.

Keina buried the lightweight case in one of her bags. Whinny-yeah, she should have gotten a separate holder for her cell. Yet, she hadn't fully trusted the ones available on the market. Would they really work against black ops surveillance?

Now though, her wiser decision, it was better to take the chance, not leave her tech devices behind. After all, anyone on the nefarious side could ransack her apartment, take them.

Keina gathered what clothing and necessities she could carry on the strength of her wings, tossing them inside the large bags in no particular order.  Her movements were automatic, given she'd rehearsed a quick escape so often in her mind.

Still naked except for her hiking boots, Keina donned warm weather gear just in case she had an unexpected encounter before morphing into winged horse, and lifting off. Besides, she wanted to double check her apartment, then grab a bite to eat for energy.

About to bite into an apple, she heard a bang-bang knock at her door. Keina froze, not recognizing that particular knock. With a blink, she cast her awareness beyond the door for a look.

No offense, but I don't want to hear the word "snow" for the rest of the decade. Or "sub-zero wind chills," for that matter.

That Prince just won't take no for an answer, will he? Maybe Ravi should pull him aside and impart some hard-earned advice, along the lines of, "Dude. Leave it."

Dayum, that is one cool picture! Would you mess with her? I wouldn't.

Yeah, the snow wasn't bad here, as far as any major problem. But the frigid temps were a nightmare! I'm hoping their gone and Spring really is taking over... but it's been so weather-extreme here, who knows???

Nope. Stallions don't generally take no for an answer unless they're thoroughly 'convinced'.

Love this pic! No, I wouldn't mess with her. I'd want to be her friend.

Last week this time we were dropping from the 30s into the 20s ahead of a Thursday-long snowstorm. Today I'm wearing a T-shirt. Next week is my rescheduled dentist appointment. Can't wait to see what happens.
